Hi everyone! I have been lurking this forum since I applied for citizenship this summer and I’m getting a bit spooked by the waiting times.
When I filled out my application, my residence time was 6 years accumulated residence. Because of this, I ticked a box on the residence time section that said “I have not been here long enough but request an exception based on language skills” or something like that. I did this because I thought 7 years is the requirement unless you fit extra criteria like the language skills, a Finnish spouse or ‘strong ties to Finland”. The same idea when one applies after 4 years of continuous residence, not 5.
Did I do the right thing in checking that box or have I just unnecessarily signed myself up to a ridiculously long queue for processing?
I didn’t know about this forum when I applied so never questioned it until now!
Thank you in advance

Congratulations!!!
Was your son a co-applicant on your citizenship application?
Did he also receive a citizenship decision?
Was his existing residence permit still valid, or had it already expired?
Thank you!
Yes, he was a co-applicant and also received a citizenship.
His existing residence permit was expired and I was waiting for a new one. I applied for the new one before the old one got expired.
Thanks for answering the questions!
I am in a similar situation. I made my application in July 2023, and I am currently waiting for the citizenship decision as well as my son’s extended residence permit decision. There are only 15 days left until it has been six months since his application (extended RP), and we still haven't received a decision. I believe it shouldn't take this long!
How long did it take to get your son’s extended residence permit decision?

It took almost 6 months for my kid to get extended RP. I was also surprised how long it takes.

Strong ties is an encouraged routed so it does not by itself mean being placed to a long queue for exceptions.

That's what they often tell you when you call them. It varies really. Lately quite a few have gotten it in 7-8 months. Generally, based on what I have read, it depends on applicant's situation. For example, if one arrived without a passport, their applications take quite long.
Some business owners/ entrepreneurs have experienced long processing times too.
Did you apply based on work or family ties? Would be good to know.

I have one question related to travelling during citizenship application. I have applied to citizenship and got diary number in July 2024. In my case I do not have to prove my identity in service point. I plan to visit my family in September 2024 for 2 weeks and I have informed migri already about my trip. However for some family matter, I have to come back again to my home country in January 2025 for 2-3 weeks. Is it possible in waiting time of citizenship? I am a little bit afraid of continuous living time which will be affected if I travel too much.
How long could we travel in total so the living time will not be interrupted?

Hey! So i applied back in 14th December 2023.
Came to Finland as a student back in 2013, got A permit around 2015 and Permanent permit around 2019.
Been a regular worker in tech.
I am still at waiting for processing, and have been consistently uploading every month my salary slips.
Anyone in the same boat as me who got their application moved from waiting for processing, or even received their decision?
I can see some December 5th moving though.

Is there any reason for long processing? Payment issue, fine or speeding?

They can use the Incomes Register so this is a waste of time.

I think it should be fine if you travel for 2-3 weeks. Just make sure to inform migri before travelling and include your dates of travel and reason of travel.

Not really! No payment issue, fine or speeding. Working in tech sector since many years. I have contacted migri and I was told that they don't provide precise information about the latest status of in progressing applications. If they need any further document, they will inform.
