Thanks, everyone!

By the way, I will be traveling to Italy on Monday next week. Do they check your passport or is the national ID enough for traveling within EU? Or do I need to apply for a new national ID again?

How long does it take to get a new passport?

For Finnish citizens an id card is enough but it must be the one issued to citizens.

Hello! I've been travelling for about 5 months and have returned to Finland already since last week. I didn't inform Migri when I travelled and my application is still pending review. Do I still need to inform Migri that I'm back? I also applied in December 2023 (diary number received Dec 14th, didn't need to visit Migri), hope to get a decision soon!

Yep, you should update in my opinion. I did actually before my trip about my travel plan, destination, reason to travel. I applied around the same time as you, and waiting for processing. I just wrote it as text using Additional Info/doc feature.

If you don't update, more than likely they will ask you for that missing travel info. So, best to update it already to avoid in delays.

Will do. 11th December application date, didn't require Migri visit. No update yet.

I called migri and asked about my application (applied 28.12.2023) and they said that they probably will start processing my application in 2 months so end of October. It is really interesting that decisions for normal applications were made within 6 months before summer and now we have to wait like 10-11 months.

To me it feels like it got a bit messy at their end combined with summer holidays.
All of a sudden some 2022 applications started getting processed then they started handling November leading to 5th of December. It has been claimed that summer staff is hired as replacements, but the gap/delay during peak summer months was very obvious. Then the new law planning and implementation might have stirred up the system too.

Sometimes it almost feels like the resources are moved around to handle other matters when you stop seeing new posts by applicants here. But of course, not everyone is on web.

These are just my personal opinions, so I suggest you to take them with a grain of salt 😊

I think the applications are not made at an even pace across the year. There will be sudden bursts when many people get the results of their YKI tests (which happen about 6-8 weeks after the test itself). Considering there are only 8 tests per year, there will be 8 weeks in the year when there are massive numbers of applications as people open their exam results and apply for citizenship (probably pretty pronto due to the many changes in requirements we are going through).
Applications around the start of December correspond to the YKI test at the start of October. Then another burst at the end of December corresponding to the YKI test at the start of November. So it's no surprise that many people report success who applied at the start of December 2023, because that week will have a larger than normal number of applicants.

That's a good point. Yep, I had taken the October YKI test but applied after the first week of December.

I think this is correct. I also think that they are prioritizing student resident permits right now since most universities start courses very soon. I’m sure the giant wave of applications that happen after YKI results play a significant part as you said here.

Following…

It’s rather odd how it’d take 2 months between the first week of December applications and the last week of December applications. They’d probably also given a loose estimate to leave room on their ends as well I’d say.

I received the same answer when sending them an email. I also applied on 28.12. They said that they are processing beginning of Dec applications so mine will be processed approximately in 2 months.

I was reading a Post on Facebook yesterday and they mentioned their application went into processing last Monday and the application date was 11.12.2023.
Couldn't find the post later, it was probably deleted after the person got a suggestion/answer for the question she/he had asked in the post.

Hello,
One of my friend have been informed that his application will be processed in 24 months months. He submitted the application in October 2023. He asked the migri by calling. What does it mean actually? does it mean that the decision might come after 24 months or anytime in next 14 months?
