Each case is different and the length of time happens accordingly. Mine case was like this:
Sep 2009 - May 2016 (B visa) = 6 years and 8 months.
May 2016 - May 2017 (A visa) = 1 year.
So it becomes:
B/2 + A = 3 years and 4 months + 1 year.
Now I tell you something, I applied for citizenship on 27 Aug 2016 and at that time my total residential period in Finland was 3 years and 7 months. To get citizenship you have to have "A type residence permit" of at least one complete year but in my case when I applied there were 9 months still needs to be completed for this "A permit"

, however I got my citizenship after one year completion of "A permit".
The point here I am trying to write is that, if someone has lived at least 3.5 years (with either A visa or combination of A+B) and has a permanent job contract alongwith language certificate could apply and hope so the case will be handled within 6 months otherwise it could take longer as in my case. So to put it in a nutshell each case is different.

Thanks "Ruoka Omasta Maasta". Your answer has been very helpful for me. I hope things go this way for me too

I totally understand how frustrated you must be right now not knowing why it is taking so long. I am also waiting for my case to go to the second stage, and I have not nearly waited as long as you, but I still keep checking Enter Finland to see if the there are any updates. The only explanation that comes to my mind is that different cases are assigned to different migri officers and they don't all work with the same pace (or have the same workload), or interpret the rules for assessment of the applications in the same way.

What documents did you guys bring to the migri/police? I have myself working contract, school certificate (amaattikoulu) and my passport?

The clock starts ticking from the day you visit Migri to verify your identity (NOT the day you made the online application). I verified my identity on the 04/04/2017 and it is still pending.
I have been told by a friend (who knows someone at Migri) that the process might slow down in the summer as many people go on vacation soon. I would be surprised to receive any decision before autumn.
Good luck everyone!

In my case it was basically everything they checked (+residence permit), no copies needed.

I verify identity in Migri in Helsinki.
My process was fast because I work contractor for Finnish government. Citizenship for me is benefit for Finland so I get security clearance so they give me positive decision very fast. I speak Finnish good but they give positive decision without YKI test.
