You are in short queue and based on may calculations from migri stats and seeing other diary number processing times your application should start processing end of coming week or early following week .
What is the calculation/estimation formula? Because diary number is something that is given to refer to your application, how do we determine the queue from that? For instance the format is xx/xxx/yyyy

X= numbers
Y= year
Okay here is how, i predicted his estimated processing times.

If you look at the migri stats https://tilastot.migri.fi/#decisions There are about 1600 applicants in December 2023, ~90 Applicants each day based on number of working days.
and again based on stats, on average about 1200 applicants are processed each month 50-70 Applications a day . Now looking at the initial of diary numbers and diary number recieved date, I have confirmed that it started around 16000 and ended with around 17300 for December applicants (despite some received the diary number on Jan). I have confirmed that my application belongs to shorter queue from Migri and looking the initial queue number and diary number, you belong to the same group as me.

And it has been also seen that someone recieved that diary number on 24 th Dec had initial about 16800, other person who got diary number of Dec 29 has diary number around 17000 and you who got the diary number of 4th Jan is around 17200 confirms all above theory.

So, with all these data, my forecasting model shows that currently applications around 18900-17000 are being processed with velocity of 50-60 applications a day. And you would have to wait 4-7 more working days to get your application starting to processed .

Let me know once you are able to confirm this.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, sounds logical,

Initial queue number: ~8640
Diary number : 172xx

What about you?
I applied in October 2023 got diary number same day and my diary number was 88xx. Migri told me my expected time is 31 months meaning I am in yhe long queue. I hope you are not in same situation like me. By the way I read on yhe previous page that there was a fast, slow and slow/ fast queue. Are there now 3 queues or just one ?
What is your initial queue number?
My queue number is 88xx. I wanted to say queue number in my first message.

It must be short queue, but you mentioned earlier that you attached your newborn baby's application. Maybe your application becomes more complex for migri, so they might move your application to slow queue. I have no idea how those combined applications are processed, but I don't think it will take 31 months too.

Thank you for the details, I agree with the first part about the stats and the number of applications they are processing. But about the diary number thing isn't it so that they start from 0 again in the new year? For instance, you mentioned 16800 at the end of December. The first part of the diary number is refreshed to 0 and started again for 2024. I received mine on 03.01 and it begins 3x/1xx/YYYY, where x= 0-9, Y= year

I think that in the format xx/xxxx/yyyy, this first part becomes 01 every new year.

That’s very insightful @curiousan. Thank you for the breakdown.

@bn05 I do think your theory is accurate on the number being reset in the NY. So I think the date we receive diary number dictates the Sequence Number.

The current info I have at hands is that one person applied on the 01.01.2024 and received diary number on the 11.01 with diary number starts at 11x/xxx/yyyy. Whereas I received mine on the 15th which starts at 27x/xxx/yyyy. So I reckon yours is at the very beginning of the Jan’s sequence number given you received yours on the 3rd.

And base on the stats there’s 1166 applications in Jan 2024

@bn05 Yes you are right, They start the diary number sequence every new year but what i have also gathered is that if you submit your application on Dec 2023 and receive the diary number on Jan 2024, You would still receive the diary number that is continuation from 2023 not 2024.

This is just out of curiosity now but looks like we have a valid story that someone who applied:

3.1 has 3x/1xx/yyyy (this is a two-digit number in 30's apparently)
11.1 has 11x/xxx/yyyy (this is a three-digit number in 100's apparently)
15.1 has 27x/xxx/yyyy (this is again a three-digit number in 200's apparently), which means on 3.1 there were around 40 applications, which grew to more than 100 on 11.1, and to 280 on 15.1.

BUT the second part after '/' (xx/XXX/yyyy) may mean something but it is hard to guess. And (as per our theory) if there were only 280 applications by 15.1, reaching 1166 in January seems difficult which means around 900 application in the last 15 days of January, and since 1166 is the correct figure, it means the second part of the diary number also reflects something but what, I do not know.

Finally the day came for me (from a non EU country in continuous permanent employment for over 25 years)

1999 Moved to Finland on a full time job contract.
27.12.2023 Applied for citizenship
28.12.2023 Visited service point, diary number created (169xx)
29.12.2023 Starting position in the queue was 8660
27.09.2024 Processing has started
27.09.2024 Positive decision two hours later

Next I will see how travel works without a valid residence card since I will leave the country in three days time so won't have a Finnish passport by then.

The second part after the ‘/‘ means the application type. In this case we are all “310” because that is the number for citizenship applications.

And to add myself in there as well, I applied mid-January and got diary number on 18th. My first part is “3XX“ so it is sequential for the year the application is submitted.
