To collect your passport at the pick-up point (R-kioski for me), you can show your Finnish ID card (the one marked "not valid for travel"). My passport was ready for pick-up a mere two days after my police station visit (and I paid for the regular, not expedited, service). A couple of days after that, I received a second notification to collect my new Finnish ID card. Again, I showed my "old" Finnish ID card, as it was still valid. Absolutely no issues.

The visit at the police station was quick: fingerprinting (both index fingers) and confirmation of identity (can't remember if I showed my "old" Finnish ID or my national passport). In any case, absolutely no issues.

When you apply online for your Finnish passport, it's worth applying for your ID card at the same time. That way, you save a few euros, and the renewal period for both will always be at the same time in the future (saving you money and time at the photo shop, as the same picture will be used for both documents).
One can also user power of attorney to anyone who has valid documents.

I am also anxiously waiting! 29.12.2023 was the last possible day for diary number generation for year 2023, so we should be seeing our first 2024 diary number/submissions soon!

oh I didn't know 29/12 is the last diary number generation day. Do they only do that on working business day?

Seems so. As you only get diary number by visiting service point or once they’ve reviewed your submission and placed your case in a processing queue so I suppose the next one would be starting from 02.01.2024

Yep, this is exactly my suspicion/assumption as well. Hoping to see that first 2.1. decision soon!

Based on the information we learned from the stats before here, processing is based on when you applied. Not when you got the diary number. (For example, someone who applied on 29 dec but visited migri on 30 jan and only got number a few days after that would normally still be processed before someone who applied on 10 January.

Are you sure about this information? as now a days we can see it is based on diary number not application date,
I applied 23rd December, received diary number 4th of January and still waiting for processing, if your theory is true, that migth mean that am in the long Queue.

That’s the information we learned from the statistics. If you back read, I think you’ll find the posts about it.

Of course it’s not straightforward for some. Hence I wrote “normally”. Some people will need to wait a bit longer than normal. It doesn’t automatically mean you’re in the long queue.

How long is the long queue? Is it always 2 years + or are those 2022 cases a rarity?

Interesting. I’ve been following this forum for the entirety of 2024, and that wasn’t my observation or understanding. Even looking at recent decisions posted on here, it all seems more based on the date of receiving the diary number.

Can you point to specifics that show otherwise? If they even exist after the purge of the graphs and whatnot.

Thanks!

You are right. Its based on the date of proving your identity which is also when you get the diary number. Similarly, if you dont have to visit their service point the important date is when you are assigned the diary number after your application has been seen my human operator. Imagine otherwise that in 3 month queue, if I apply 1.1 and visit service point on 29.3, do I get the decision 30.3? which is1 day after getting diary number. The answer is NO.

I can’t be bothered reading all over again everything here but that’s what I remember. Also, not sure if the FAQs about it were deleted by the person supplying us the stats info. They deleted all their posts here after migri talked about the “misuse” of chatbot.

But definitely have heard from friends too that it took them awhile to get a spot to visit migri but they still got decision 6 months exactly from the day they applied online. (Back when 6 months was normal).

Also, I applied in January (I didn’t have to visit migri). but I have a friend who applied in December but she only got to visit migri in January later after my online application date/date my diary number was given.

Her diary number given to her was still before me and has “2023” in it.

That’s consistent with what we learned in this forum based on the stats that someone was getting from migri bot.

Ahh sorry, I didn’t mean the diary number itself. That does seem to be numbered based on the day you submitted your application. I was talking about the date that you learn what your diary number is, since that’s usually the date that you are put in the queue for processing.
