Hello. My citizenship application process:

12.06.2024: Applied
18.06.2024: Dairy number received
09.12.2024: Sent info about trips
23.12.2024: Sent info that I won't be around from 24.12.2024 to 02.02.2025
21.01.2025: Processing began (I was still outside of Finland)
02.02.2025: Returned to Finland
03.02.2025: Received positive decision!

I wrote to them in November 2024 to ask how long the process would take and they said 9 months. I ended up being quicker than that.

Background: Indian, moved to Finland to work in 2019, was consistently employed. The decision page said it was an automatic decision.
Congratulations!!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

Thanks for sharing, this is quite fast, not 31 months as migri promises these days.

Finally, it has arrived!!

2.7.2024: Applied for citizenship, no need to visit immigration office
4.7.2024: Diary number created
been constantly updating to migri where I would be traveling in between
12.2.2025 (13.36): process begun
12.2.2025 (13.48): decision made automatically (Cant believe how quickly it went, I was expecting a few hours or even, few days)

Background: From Vietnam, been here for 12 years (came as a student on B RP, now working full time on P-permit).
my diary number starts with 69xx.

Good luck to everyone!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to see if there’s anyone here who has applied before May 2024 on the basis of family ties and is still in “waiting for processing” stage. Thanks!

Guys,
A decision has been made on my spouse application, but we cannot see it, and it says, that if you cannot see the document concerning your decision, be patient, you will be contacted. Does anyone know why the decision letter is not ready immediately?
I am scared badly!

Did you have above 20km/h traffic fines?
Is one incident of this can led to a negative decision?

Small traffic fine no, but above 20 km/h when you was called to police and it was registered as a crime record might lead yes, but you can re-submit your citezenship application latter on again, i.e. usually it delays approval by a couple of years. Better talk with immigration lawyer if you have above 20 km/h.

Just to be clear, traffic offcence in Finland classified as crime record if you drive about 20 km/h, or drive on red light or drive without driving license.

Info is here as well
https://poliisi.fi/en/automatic-traffic-surveillance

Traffic crimes
Traffic crimes punishable with day fines include exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 km/h, failure to observe the red traffic light in a way that endangers traffic safety, and operating a vehicle without a licence
Before starting pre-trial investigation, the police send a letter to the registered owner or holder of the vehicle, requesting the identity of the driver shown in the photo taken by the automatic traffic camera. The letter states that the incident has been photographed.

When the owner or holder of the vehicle responds to the letter, informing the police of the driver, the police will send a mutual assistance request to the police department in the driver’s domicile. The driver is asked to visit the police station where they are personally informed of the fine.

p.s. I myself drive these days 74 km/h on 80 km/h road to be super-safe, just in case the allowed speed quickly goes to 70 or 50 and I don't notice that. Thing is all cars and mine as well on shows speed +5-7 km/h on speedometer, and if road goes to 50, I still will be driving like 74-5=69 km/h which is 69-20 = 49km/h i.e. a km or 2 km below limit

Does anyone know if automated decision making can be used for those applicants who applied after a shorter period of residence (4 years) due to having the required language skills? Until now I have only seen automated decision making for applicants who have been living in Finland for 7 years or more. Let me know if anyone has seen otherwise.

New Citizenship Exam - Govt's Recommendations

Post by Auringon_kukka » Wed Feb 19, 2025 4:18 pm

Interesting article on what the new citizenship exam might look like: https://yle.fi/a/74-20144682 (in Finnish, but I'm sure the piece will be available in English soon).

Interestingly, they're also recommending that candidates for citizenship undergo an in-person interview. With that, Finland would be aligning itself with practices in some other countries, e.g., Switzerland.

EDIT: The article, in English: https://yle.fi/a/74-20144768.
