So they don't speak Finnish. Not *my* problem is it? See I went to school and had to learn four different languages, so should I feel sorry?

I think you're rather lucky there then, I only got to do 2. Some poor guys end up learning obscure languages much later in life, when learning such things is rather more challenging than when you're at school.

Well, either you learn or you don't but it isn't *my* problem. Its *your* problem. I had to earn everything myself and all I hear is complaining and whining from people who want everything brought in front of them on a platter. So sorry we cannot exceed your expectations, go to your other western countries to be asskissed, I am afraid here you'll get a shoe integrated up there.

Actually I'm hearing more and more examples of employers here funding Finnish-language courses for their not-yet-fluent employees. Not exactly a full-on felching for the immigrant, but some employers clearly value them enough to invest cold hard cash (or should that be a warm, soft tongue  )

It kind of serves to prove the point.

If you are not hired because you are not speaking language, either you are not lucky enough to be in job where finnish is not needed and need of workforce is urgent.

If your job requires finnish, you need to speak finnish. And every customer contact job is pretty much like that. Or you are bad customer contact person.

So, foreigners. Whine less, study more. Hard? Most likely. Depressing to have to forfeit years to learn to speak to others? I guess.

Should employers hire you despite you not being needed/unable to perform your duties? Hell no! It's YOUR job to make yourself viable/valuable.

My problem? Not at all. I learned languages in days long gone. And plan to study japanese now just for sake of doing so. (and to visit Japan eventually)

Well, there lies the problem. Question is "Do I need to?" No, not for my work. I can manage well by speaking English. But, it would be nice to integrate. I try my best. Though, face lot of hurdles. But, I don't give up so easily.

I kind of like this country. And, one more thing, I don't whine about anything just accept as things are and try to follow the rules. Even been to language courses and intend to speak Finnish in the next few years (yes it takes time as I am kind of busy working for my Finnish employer).

See, if you don't even have any clear cut answer as to what you refer to as integration. Just shutup and you stop whining about foreigners.

You make my other Finnish mates look bad.

Ah, see now, you are integrating.

You make the other foreigners look bad, you're supposed to whine for us to bend the rules for you, because you're a gilt-arsed gift of god (maybe for the ladies who worship your rod and staff) and cannot accept things how they are in "other western countries". Thats what "foreigners" do

Think it opposite way.

How would you like foreigners who immigrate to your native country to behave for you to be comfortable?

That is integration.

Now, just flip it to fit finnish culture and society and apply it to yourself.
No, it is not easy. You have to learn how finnish culture and society works. Me? I do not have to. It is hardcoded to me during my early youth, it is natural.

For you to reach that... Sorry, lots of work and effort and time. But that is integration.

Ofcourse, it is not easy and I bloody know that.

I understand your point, the Finnish people who have delt with me for years have always told me that, they never found anything strange about me. They also understand that, it is not possible for me to have a fast learing curve with Finnish language as other foreigners who are imported by their Finnish partners. I cannot afford to speak Finnish in my work; as the people whom I deal with are foreigners.

1. I eat Finnish food and never complained about it. You see, I can't fake liking it for years.
2. I have been to saunna several times with my office pals.
3. I never felt bad about the weather or the sunlight.
4. I prefer to buy only Finnish products.
5. I promote/implement Finnish technology in foreign countries.
6. I understand the basic rules of life here.
7. I pay taxes but, never complained.
8. Never took any benefit money yet from the system.
9. My alcohol intake is good.
10. I don't speak Finnish as I cannot practice. But, want to carry on myself.
11. I cannot have a plastic surgery to change my color. I cannot afford it.
12. I had a Finnish girl who left me for no reason. But, she was honest to admit her mistake. I don't think it was much of a big deal. Things like this happen in life.

Now, could you please tell me what sort of weird creature I am?

According to the studies done by the Flower-Hatted-Auntie Society - you cannot exist  You should be yelling discrimination because of the cloudy days. Honestly - that is what I expect from a foreigner these days. Being an irritant that the gods and devils have sent to annoy me as if I were Job.
