I wanted to share my key dates in case it’s helpful to anyone:
Diary number created: 06/02/2024
Processing started: 04/11/2024
Decision made: 12/11/2024
I visited the location in person, and they didn’t ask for any additional updates.
Could you please guide me on what to do next? Should I inform the bank, KELA, or any other relevant organization that I'm now a Finnish citizen? Is the only thing left to book an appointment with the police for my passport?
Thanks so much for your help!
No need to inform anyone. Your citizenship will have been updated in the Population Information System (you can check at Suomi.fi) shortly after the decision was made. So, schedule your passport appointment. By the way, I chose the regular service option and had my passport two days later. I also recommend getting your new (i.e., valid for travel) Finnish identity card at the same time (you save a few euros by applying for both documents at the same time). That way, both documents will always be up for renewal at the same time in the future (convenient and cheaper (Poliisi and photographer)).

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Hi everyone,
I’m new to this forum and was wondering what exactly does the diary number indicate?
Here’s details of my case:
1. Got residence permit type A in March 2018 based on family ties (non EU citizen married to Finnish citizen)
2. Moved to Finland in March 2020
3. 16.01.2024 applied for citizenship
4. 29.01.2024 diary number created 6xx/310/2024
5. I’ve sent additional information twice regarding travels outside Finland
I studied Masters for 2 years here in Finland then completed the 9-month integration course including the 3 week practical language training and later passed the YKI test but haven’t had a job yet.
Any idea how long this could take? Anyone here with a similar case?

No one can say expect Migri. Of course you could try your luck and call, some have were provided with an estimation e.g, 10 months etc. So you understand a bit if your case is easy or not. But note that this can change through the handlingRezheenA wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 10:27 pmHi everyone,

Alright. I'll also post here once I receive the decision. Let's keep our fingers crossed!Koivu_ wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 11:21 amLet me know!Elovenamokka wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 9:38 pmI got my diary number on the 3rd of April, one day after you. I asked them by email yesterday what was their estimation for my case and they replied today that it would be 9 months. I’ll post here when i get the decision. It is very hard to understand their logic…

May I ask, how long have you been waiting so far? Did you ask in Finnish?Koivu_ wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 11:21 amLet me know!Elovenamokka wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 9:38 pmI got my diary number on the 3rd of April, one day after you. I am non EU citizen. Hopefully we hear good news soon.

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
That was a typo and I did edit the message but for some reason the correction is yet to be added. My diary number is 3 digits and starts with 6 so 6xx. I still don’t know how is the diary number relevant to how long the process may take.kafikk wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 6:10 pmMay i ask what is the first digit of your diary number? you wrote xx2, just tell me the first digit, not the last one. Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Got my decision today, I'm finally a Finnish Citizen!
Here is my timeline:
24.10.2022 Applied online.
17.11.2022 Visited Migri.
31.10.2024 The processing started.
06.11.2024 Got a request for supplementary information. Replied same day.
21.11.2024 Decision ready.
The last weeks have been really stressful, I was hoping to get an answer in few days max after supplying addional documents, instead it took weeks, so I'm glad the wait is finally over.
Good luck to everyone waiting for a decision, especially others waiting since 2022 like me. I hope you get it soon!
