It's a very generic response, basically telling the same thing that's on Migri's website. Not unusual at all, many people in this thread got similar responses when asking Migri about processing times. Getting a more precise time estimate is a hit or miss, depending on what Migri worker answered your call.

I checked the same with Migri twice, 3 months ago they informed that my processing time is 8 months from identity verification or submission date. Then i checked with them again 3 weeks ago and they informed that they expect my application to be processed in the next 1-2 months. Applied in Jan 24 and visited Migri in 07 Feb - not sure if it will be processed soon.kavdkv wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 11:41 amHi fellow-applicants,

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Hi friends,
question regarding the residency time requirement for the old law (before october 2024):
I have travelled verry frequently during my stay in Finland due to the job nature i have and also lot of leisure travel and during corona was working remotely back from home, so i even used the 2 periods of 2 up to 6 months. used 4/6 periods of the 1-2 months and have like 23 travel < 1 month .
all in all, i haven't exceeded the periods stated by the law but almost used it all.
Question is: when Migri wants to make the decision, do they check back 4 years from the decision date. This means if i receive decision today (25/11/2024), they will check my travel log back from 25/11/2020.
I have seen such a statement in their FAQ for the new rule and some members earlier in this forum mentioned this, but can't find this statement anymore.
What i know for sure, is that i need to comply with the residency rules up till the decision making date, but is that from the residency start date or for the 4 years back from the decision date
thanks any helo is appreciated to settle my brain down and nop i dont want to contact Migri regarding that unless it is my last possible chance

We called them last week and they said the processing will take around 25 months ( which is the maximum time when I check on the application processing times page of Migri). She proved her identity on 14th June 2024.
About our case:
I moved to Finland in 2015 on a B visa, converted to A in April 2016, left Finland for 2 years between 2019-2021, and back since Sept 2021 on an A permit.
She Worked for 2 years preceding and during the application submission. before that as well multiple contract positions, but not on full-time permanent contract.
In my wife's case, it is 25 months because we asked for exception to the period of residence (6 years accumulated) and we wanted to submit before the law changed in October.
It is what it is. no point getting anxious or angsty over something that you dont have control over.

I’m glad you both posted this because similar to UncleSam I applied around the same time, got diary number on 29.01, and I’m also non-EU. However, my situation involves three things that I believe to be problematic:UncleSam wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 4:25 pmI checked the same with Migri twice, 3 months ago they informed that my processing time is 8 months from identity verification or submission date. 1. My country is on the list of countries Migri stated years ago that they needed more time to check their citizens’ backgrounds but I’m not sure if that’s still a thing considering the list has been removed from Migri’s website.
2. I haven’t had a job yet and have been receiving opintotuki and työmarkkinatuki from KELA.
3. I applied 7 weeks before completing 4 years of residency (my residence permit is type A based on family ties making it possible to apply upon completing 4 years). I’ve also traveled a lot but the longest I’ve been abroad was 5 weeks.
I called Migri about a month ago and they gave me a 23 months estimate. I kinda thought that’s just what they tell everyone where they estimate the maximum duration but since they told UncleSam 1-2 months I’m starting to think they actually meant 23 months. Thank you both for sharing your processes

I wish I could tell you for sure but I can only guess that they take into consideration the 4-year period starting from the day you received your residence permit but I could be wrong so I say reconsider calling them

I am not a lawyer and could be wrong, but the law suggests it's the time just before the decision.UncleSam wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 4:32 pmHi friends,

My emphasis.Ulkomaalaiselle myönnetään hakemuksesta Suomen kansalaisuus, jos hakemusta ratkaistaessa:
The law then goes on to list the requirements, one of them being the time of residence.

The old law had the same wording, so I didn't bother searching for it.

Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Migri sends the standard “your application is waiting for processing” every 4 weeks from the day you received your diary number, and every 6th email will be the “update your travel and pay” email. So yes, every 24 weeks from when you received diary number you get that longer email about travel and pay updates.sgk wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 1:28 pmAfter how many days/months migri sends automatic email about travel? 24 weeks(5 months and 15 days) or exact after 6 months? Because today I got email from Migri about my travel, I wonder if my decision is about to come or all people get after 5 months and 15 days?
Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
I don't think it is 4 years back from the decision date, because Migri doesn't always ask to update the travel information before they make a decision, but to be on a safe side I would suggest to be in compliance with the travelling requirements also after submission of the application. You anyway need to report travels once per 24 weeks.UncleSam wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 4:32 pmHi friends,

Just wanted to add that after 9 months of being in the waiting stage Migri stopped sending me the “your application is waiting for processing” email which they sent regularly every 4 weeks. I asked about it a while ago on this forum and apparently it’s the same for other applicants too.BringMePulla wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 8:22 amMigri sends the standard “your application is waiting for processing” every 4 weeks from the day you received your diary number, and every 6th email will be the “update your travel and pay” email. Re: Applying for Citizenship 2024
Hi everyone! I would like to share good news from my citizenship application/journey and hope it would be a good reference to those who have applied.
Application Timeline:
- 9 Apr 2024: Submitted citizenship application and paid the fee via EnterFinland. Application received by Migri, no need for a service point visit.
- 19 Apr 2024: Diary number created.
- 30 Oct 2024: Submitted supplementary documents to report past travels.
- 11 Nov 2024: Notified Migri of an upcoming trip via a supplement document and email to their customer service.
- 14 Nov 2024: Application moved to Stage 2 (In Progress) in EnterFinland. No email notification received; only noticed the change when logging in.
- Week of 17 Nov 2024: Traveled abroad; no progress during this time. EnterFinland status remained in Stage 2.
- 26 Nov 2024, klo 8.50 : Received a positive decision, this time with email and sms notification.
Background:
Asian. I arrived in Finland in 2017 with a residence permit applied for before my arrival. My permit history:
- B-type work permit: 2.7 years.
- B-type other grounds permit: 5 months wherein I also received 2 months of Kela support
- A-type work permit: just over 4 years until receiving citizenship.
My application is wholly based on work and no Finnish family ties (e.g. Finnish partner, etc.). I took the YKI test only in January 2024, received the results in late March, and submitted my application shortly after. Based on the timing, I believe Migri may have delayed the decision until after my return from the November trip.
Thank you to everyone as well who have been updating here for good information to somehow keep people like me who have been anxious to get updates in their application.
