Hello,

I have a pretty similar case:D

Application Timeline
7.04.2024: Submitted citizenship application and paid the fee via EnterFinland. Application received by Migri, no need for a service point visit.
18.04.2024: A diary number was created (35XX/310/2024).
03.10.2024: Notified Migri about a few short trips.
Still waiting for processing.

Background:
Russian, arrived in 2017 as a student.
B-type visa from 2017 to 2022.
A-type visa from 2022 to now (working as an IT specialist).
No Finnish family ties. Passed YKI in January 2024 (3/3/3/3).
Many trips abroad (especially to Russia), but none interrupted the period of residence according to the law.

Congratulations on obtaining your citizenship! 🎉 You've worked hard for this, and your dedication has paid off—well done! 👏

Hi everyone! I would like to share good news from my citizenship application/journey and hope it would be a good reference to those who have applied. :D

Application Timeline:
- 9 Apr 2024: Submitted citizenship application and paid the fee via EnterFinland. Application received by Migri, no need for a service point visit.
- 19 Apr 2024: Diary number created.
- 30 Oct 2024: Submitted supplementary documents to report past travels.
- 11 Nov 2024: Notified Migri of an upcoming trip via a supplement document and email to their customer service.
- 14 Nov 2024: Application moved to Stage 2 (In Progress) in EnterFinland. No email notification received; only noticed the change when logging in.
- Week of 17 Nov 2024: Traveled abroad; no progress during this time. EnterFinland status remained in Stage 2.
- 26 Nov 2024, klo 8.50 : Received a positive decision, this time with email and sms notification.

Background:
Asian. I arrived in Finland in 2017 with a residence permit applied for before my arrival. My permit history:
- B-type work permit: 2.7 years.
- B-type other grounds permit: 5 months wherein I also received 2 months of Kela support
- A-type work permit: just over 4 years until receiving citizenship.
My application is wholly based on work and no Finnish family ties (e.g. Finnish partner, etc.). I took the YKI test only in January 2024, received the results in late March, and submitted my application shortly after. Based on the timing, I believe Migri may have delayed the decision until after my return from the November trip.

Thank you to everyone as well who have been updating here for good information to somehow keep people like me who have been anxious to get updates in their application.

Hi,

Can someone give me an estimate when should expect my decision?

Application date: 31.05.2023
Diary number and visit: 12.06.2023 ;

My Diary number is 59xx/310/2023

When I call or send an email, I always get this generic answer that I have to be patient and the wait time is 25 months. Yet I saw recently that someone who got their diary number in mid April has received his decision already (total 18 month). Does it mean that I will get it around that time too?

Also are there usually decisions during the x-max period?

Thanks!

You might get it in a few months, or you might not.

I’ve realized, after waiting over 16 months, that it’s a random game if you don’t receive your decision within the first 6–9 months.

It could take 25 months or more, so just stay mentally strong—that’s all.

By the way, I applied and visited the Migri service point on July 4, 2023.

Cheers!

I got my diary number on the 2nd of april, 28xx, and nothing yet. I am an EU citizen
I got my diary number on the 3rd of April, one day after you. I am non EU citizen. Hopefully we hear good news soon.
Let me know!

I asked them by email yesterday what was their estimation for my case and they replied today that it would be 9 months. I’ll post here when i get the decision. It is very hard to understand their logic…
Hi, I hope you'll soon receive your positive decision. I have the same problem as I applied in November last year. What's the email address you contacted? And did you communicate in Finnish or English?

Hello everyone,

Finally I got my decision today.

Here is my time line:
23.01.2023: visited Migri
19.11.2024: application moved to second stage.
29.11.2024: got the positive decision.

I came to Finland as student (B-permit). Working full time over past 8 years and already had permanent residence permit when applied. Also when I contacted Migri regarding processing time of my application the gave me general 31 months answer.

Good luck to everyone waiting for a decision, especially others waiting since 2023 like me.

Hi there, nah I’m still waiting too, nothing new yet. By the way do you still get the “waiting for processing” emails every 4 weeks? They stopped sending me those after 9 months or so (beginning of October). I think someone said they stopped sending it to everyone.

That’s great at least it’s in progress now! I applied in January too, diary number is 6**, but I guess the fact that I don’t have a job and my country is on that list the algorithm is treating me accordingly, even though neither of those were officially mentioned anywhere by migri when I applied. I’m not stressing about it though, it’s only a matter of time and my priority at the moment is to get a job. I hope you get a positive decision soon!

Well, another 1 month of the outgoing year has passed, only December remains, is there any news from applicants in 2022?
