Well, Finnish differentiates with pulla, torttu, piirakka, piiras, -pitko, leivos, kakku... but then you get into regional variants so a lörtsy or a paakkelsi may be either dialectal words or wholly dialectal foods... but then you have special products like tuulihattu or lusikkaleipä which are totally nothing what reads on the package.

I haven't been out in the shops much these days, but since laskiaistiistai (sp?) was yesterday, i'm starting to worry...... is it too late to find my ever so favorite buns of the year???? after that tuesday, is it alll over??

I thought Laskiaissunnuntai was first, then is rose monday, shrove tuesday and ash wednesday and then you don't eat for 40 days...

It might be due to the calendar gotten whacked with the "arkipyhät"

SOOORRRYYY, Hank is right. Laskiaissunnuntai is before laskiaistiistai. I lost track after it was no longer my holy duty to slide down a bumby hill all day. But the buns are still at stores for a few days at least.
