We call them somaleiksi or neekereiksi depending on situation, i find that someone e.g. from kenya is really offended if i call him somaliDavid Rönnqvist wrote:What do Finnish people call the Somalis? Nekrut? Or any special words?Jukka Aho wrote:The meanings and connotations of words – even cognates – are rarely 1:1 identical from one language and culture to the next, but you often see the Finnish word neekeri likened to “negro” and the Finnish word nekru likened to “nigger”.Bubba Elvis XIV wrote:Was it?????? Oh ok....I thought it was 'n!ggers kiss'...Well, that's how people translated it to me.
Ok, fair call. So even less reason to change the name IMO.

I think that somppu would be used when one wants to insult a black person, not necessary Somalian one.David Rönnqvist wrote:What do Finnish people call the Somalis? Nekrut? I don't think "somppu" is really offensive, its an abbreviation of a nationality, like calling American a "jenkki". I mean on the mild scale offensive then might be calling someone East European a slobo or F-E Asian kinuski then again what is "offensive" - in Russian you'd call someone "aubergine"...Upphew wrote: I think that somppu would be used when one wants to insult a black person, not necessary Somalian one.

Beef jerky question:
This is the stuff I brought over;
http://www.amazon.com/World-Kitchens-Fa ... 559&sr=8-1
It seemed to go over well with all but one girl, so, maybe this will be more fun to give out.
Uncle Mike's is really good but it's also a lot more costly. To be honest I don't know if I'd spend the extra over the other stuff, but it's another option. Here's a link to one place selling it online;

If you can find a store that sells them, bring some clues over for this David Rönnqvist guy.

I knew you'd appear!!
Yeah, see it's a good snack, tons of protein and very little else...some jerky, nut's and a bit of fruit for those all night gaming sessions.
I was checking those links and it's pricey and what with my lack of self control I'd probably eat 50 dollars worth of stuff in a very short time.
Might be fun to make even if it's a disaster.

I've made jerky using the oven, I wouldn't want to have paid for a dehydrator for just a few batches of the stuff. It still takes all day, you can't get away from that.
What about BBQ sauces? I've seen that mentioned in other threads here, how there's just a couple available in the stores, where as there's probably hundreds sold commercially here in the States. It's grilling season soon (if not already) there in Finland so it seems like that could be popular too.
