Re: How to install a wood floor
If you want to cut the door frame or the molding around the door frame so that you can fit the laminate without cutting it.
Place a piece of laminate and underlay flat on the floor next to the frame to be cut. Then with normal wood saw lay the blade flat on top of the piece of laminate and you should be able to lift the handle up enough so you can saw a cut parallel to the floor the correct height from the floor to allow the laminate to fit in. You may have to use one hand to keep the saw blade flat on the piece of laminate being used as a guide. You may also need to use a small wood chisel to get the piece out if you dont cut all the way through the frame.
It is also recommended that any doors that open into the area being floored are removed before you lay the floor. At the very least you should check that the door will be able to open after you have installed the new floor, you should check the gap in several places as floors are never flat !
Normally you can trim a cm or two from the bottom of a door to allow for the extra clearance needed when new floor is installed. This can be done using an electric planner !
