She is not saying stem cells treatment is better, that the others doesn't work, blablabla.
Of course first choice of leucemia treatment is chemo/cystostatic, radio, but stem cells treatmente is also more expensive than them.

After the chemo you'll need stem cell treatment. Stem cells can be collected from the patient before chemo. Or from donor. Or from the cord blood.

Give your opinion is good, everyone has the right to do but try to change others opinion and even say it's wrong isn't very nice.

I think you are wrong. Of course you can act civil or sugarcoat what you say, but that doesn't mean you have to refrain from trying to change peoples' opinion. There was some war because some thought slavery was a ok and then there were slight disagreement about suffrage... sure, not so big things discussed here and now, but where to put the line or by whom?

Agreed. Problem is the Finnish system and doing so aren't exactly in agreement. I would be happy if people could do what they like. Ride a bike/motorcycle without helmet and your treatments come from your pocket. But you do have a choice. Smoke like a banshee and when you get cancer you can pay your own hospital bill. Your choice. Drink so your liver and job are gone, but don't expect dole nor new liver...

I work in genetics, specifically in the reproductive area.

As of right now cord blood has not been used to specifically treat/cure childhood leukemias etc. Stem cells can be harvested from cord blood, their use will only develop at some point in the future - in theory you MIGHT be able to grow a new kidney for your child etc. IN THE VERY DISTANT FUTURE, it won't happen anytime soon because there are so many checks and balances which have to be performed, government approvals etc.

My personal opinion is that cord blood is a great way of getting 1000e off parents, no use for it at present.

If you really want it, there are cord blood kits out there.

oh, and by the way, Finland, due to it's rather isolated gene-pool and the specific diseases related to that is very much at the forefront of genetics/biotechnology etc. If there was a current, real, PROVEN use for cord blood, trust me honey, they would know about it..................

try to remember that these companies offering cord blood kits are in the same sink as those companies offering dna kits so you can find out what "diseases you are susceptable to" (tip: if you smoke and drink like a fish, eat badly, don't excercise and have heaps of unprotected sex, something will get you sooner or later. you don't need a dna kit for that) If you have a real genetic issue in your family, the system will take care of you beautifully.
