I don't think that in most cases on either side it's the teaching that's the problem, I think it's the predjudices knocked into the kids from a young age that make them hear what they want to hear.
I fully agree. But I also think that intergrated schooling should, not solve, but soften the problem somewhat - learning more about the other side, how they live, what they're beliefs are... Too many children grow up not having even met anyone on the other side. I went to a school run by a Protestant establishment (in the republic) but about 30% of the kids were Catholic. I am a Prod but most of my friends were Catholic. We mutually respected each others' differences. I'd love to get in contact with them again but Ireland hasn't seemed to come to grasp with schoolfriends.com yet

Hey Stu and Deman,
I'm from Cavan and had a lot of relatives that lived in Belfast, I agree with both of you just mentioned. Anyways not to rehash an an old topic, but something I've found strange on my travels is that all the best people from NI up and leave, whatever their political persuasion. I think its a pity for Northern Ireland that the people with the best grasp of their combined history and perspective leave.
Its just that I met allot of cool people over the years from Belfast and its environs that I guess through indoctrination in some part where brought up thinking that people from Eire where some sort of enemy, I'd never really met that many unionists until I left Ireland.
I suppose you guys came here for the obligatory Finnish girlfriend
James

Hi John,
The drink Black & Tan has been was popular Irish drink for years, its half Guinness and half Smithwicks (or Macardles if your from Dundalk) It usual Irish sense of humour.
Luck, like a Russian car, generally only works if you push it.

You took the words right outta my mouth.
BTW, jcooper, you didn't go to the Royal School in Cavan, did you? And yes, it was a woman.

Ah Deman, no I didn't actually, though I knew quite afew people who did. Seems of all the old grammar type schools, this one does not have a great reputation, at least going by the guys who left.
Well as for the female interest was kinda a rhetorical question

Though of course could have been a man either, but hey....
How do you find Turku? You're not one of those dreaded posters on Ireland.com are you?

What I really have a problem with is not showing the Rubgy six nations and the Rugby world cup. You'd think with all the foreign nationals (from rugby nations) living in Finland, a bar would be able to make money showing these matches. I'd even travel from Tampere to Helsinki in order to catch these games.
OK! I agree... I think there is enough of us in here to get rugby! At least the national games... I don't know how many games I missed but quite a lot! What should we do? Make a petition? Collect money and get cable so that we could see the games? Any suggestion?

I've never posted on ireland.com. Never even visited it. Even though I'm Irish, there are a lot of pricks there
The reason why I asked about the Royal was that I think I know someone that went there back in the mid-late 80s. But maybe I'm wrong. His surname was Alexander.
