Estrella S+V still popular in Myyrmäki S-Market.

Pretty blinking good they are, too.

Ah! We even have a crisp-scoffing smiley!

Instead of Jack Robinson you could try using a word like transsubstantiaatio to make sure you also get your rightful share of the S&V loot... :)

No, birdie num num :D

Balsamic vinegar... so are they quite different from the 'ordinary' S&V? Haven't come across those ever.

Can't see youtube from work.

Yep - they taste even better, much nicer tang. Tastes like real salt and vinegar has been added like on a portion of chips. As opposed to the slightly artificial tang of those cheaper brands which use sodium ethanoate or E262.

Also had a great curry in Earl's Court and the best lemon sponge & custard I've ever tasted at Ramsey's gastropub in Limehouse.

God I needed that trip!

Me too!

Sent the lads out fishing off Lyme Regis while I went shopping. They hooked about 25 kgs of cod (and too much mackerel) some of which we deposited at the Harbour Inn (who made us fish and chips) and some we took back and made into a fish pie. It was so good!

Bugger! :) Well, I'll keep them in mind in case I should come across other reasons for visiting the UK... the last time I went was almost 20 years ago, not counting a very brief work-related stint in Manchester a few years back. Time flies - I don't :) (not exactly true, our holiday trips abroad just tend to take on a different direction year after year, no specific reason for it though.)

Behnchod's in the WTC sell them, yours at €24.99 per bag!

In my first few years in Finland, going back to England used to be a real chore mainly through having to visit family in the North. The last couple of times we've gone back I've treated it as a holiday and I have to say, London is fan-'kin-tastic.

We used SAS (booked through Blue1) to go Hki - Arlanda - London City airport ... €100 one way. Fantastic route for convenience, but the landing was a bit scary as the runway is so short you drop like a stone on approach.

15 minutes after landing we were on the DLR headed into town, half an hour after landing we were at our first hotel (we used 3 for 4 nights). . We flew BA back from Heathrow and that was £99 (€117) ... so €216 for the flights. If anyone wants hotel or transport details, p.m. me, I'm happy to share.... I'm still stunned that taking the tube to Heathrow from Central London was only £2.20 on an Oyster card.

I know it's false economy to think this way, but when you consider how much stuff we brought back in over the counter medicines, food and spices and even clothes, we easily saved in shopping the cost of one of the flight tickets. Managed to get tickets for Mahler 9 at the RCM ... conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen of all people ... £15 per ticket ... amazing stuff.

And the weather although overcast most of the time, was over 20°C every day ... I understand Juhannus here was a bit shyt.
If I lived in Hki, I'd happily use that London City airport route for a weekend every couple of months.

Yeah, after 9 years here I'm climbing up the walls. An escape every month or 2 is the only thing that preserves sanity.

We also went Bananas with the BOGOFs in Boots and brought back lots of medicines and vitamins etc. Went to M&S in Weymouth for clothes for the kids (chose The Wrong Day as HRH #1 was visiting the Olympic sailing venue and all the OAPs along the south coast were there to wave... did get my first ever glance of Her Majesty though and a photo of the back of her head). Anyway M&S were doing 20% (yes that's 20%) off their casual menswear so got a TON of jeans, shirts, etc at better prices than Tarjoustalo and MUCH better quality. OK so M&S menswear is boring, but my kids are "No Logo" (thank goodness) so I just let them loose for an hour. We would never have got all that back by plane. My SO bought a lifetime's supply of M&S ginger biscuits (the thick crumbly ones with stem ginger bits in) and I went mad with more BOGOFs in Julian Graves. And a few magazines. And a pasta machine. And rather a lot of amonites and belemnites :ochesey:

The Dorset coast is absolutely FAB. Really beautiful. I really must get the kids to London one day. Did you get any good deals on hotel accomodation ?

Mum and dad had recorded "Have I Got News For You", so I watched all of those (Floating Duck Islands etc. Rolf Harris chaired it a couple of weeks back.... hilarious). Also became a regular viewer of "Springwatch" which is basically birdwatching, LIVE on TV. Sounds odd but very nice in a BBC sort of way.

Not everything was so cheap though. Some food items seemed more expensive than here. OTOH Lyme Regis doesn't have any hypermarkets.... We shopped in Carrefour in Paris on the way home, and then a bit more in Lubeck.

Had you already left for the Silver Jubilee?

By the way, IIRC your young chaps ain't so short? I always found that the M&S trousers range topped out at a 33" leg :( (there again, half-mast trousers seem all the vogue in my office. Bad joke, sorry)

It was in 1977, right? I was either au-pairing in France or I was at Uni. Don't remember doing any street parties or stuff like that. And, to be honest, unlikely you would find me on the streets waving a flag for royalty. Which is probably how I got to 50 without ever setting eyes on HRH. I did once see the Queen Mum though. And I think I've seen Charles too but can't remember where or when.

My eldest are standard Men's size M and L. They are not particularly tall. The jeans were fine but they did complain some of the shirts were too short in the body (but this could be because they wear their jeans too low.... )
