I received two supplement requests: one for updated accounting documents, and one for clarifications. My application started processing at 23 months, and I had my decision about three weeks later.

In the last year's post you said that you received clarification request after sending reply to supplement request about your business. I am asking because it may help me see what documents might need clarification and I can already send it with my reply to supplement request. Thank you so much once again.

Happy to oblige! In second request, migri wanted to know why I had no private withdrawals from business early on. I explained that I had savings to draw on, plus my spouse's income, who was/is employed full time. The decision came quickly after that.

A friend of mine recently received his citizenship, he applied 27.02.2023. I guess yours will come out within the next two weeks hopefully.

Every month I would usually receive an automatic message “ Hakemus odottaa käsittelyä” from Migri, but it’s now been 1,5 month since the last message.

In my case, my application has been pending for two years without a decision. Last year, Migri told me in writing that I should expect a decision by October 2025 (24 months after submission). But now they say the processing time is 31 months, which feels very unfair since many applicants who applied later have already received their decisions. Also 5 of my close friends applied after me and got the citizenship, my case is easy going nothing complicated.

Because of this, I submitted a complaint. Recently, I was informed that the Chancellor of Justice (Oikeuskansleri) contacted Migri about my case, and Migri has now assigned a specific officer to handle it.

My question is:
Has anyone else here complained to the Ombudsman or Chancellor of Justice about Migri delays? If so, what was the outcome? Did it help move your application forward, or did it only result in a general statement later?

Any insights or experiences would be really helpful — thank you in advance! — feeling disappointed.

I applied in Sep 2024 and waiting.

I know some people who applied in the first half of the year and received their citizenship, while others haven’t, despite all working full-time. We couldn’t find any logical explanation for the processing order.

I believe the changes in citizenship rules last year have significantly increased the number of applications. Therefore, anyone applying after August should expect more delays than the promised 9 months, in my opinion at least. I expect mine to get processed in Q1 of next year, simply because of the updates on Migri’s targets that they’ve released. For instance, they’ve met their 1-year target for this year, so I assume they’re now prioritising older applications. However, it’s difficult to predict for sure.

I cannot answer your question about outcomes from a complaint. But I do have information that might be helpful.

I am waiting for Migri to begin processing my citizenship application submitted on 29 August 2023 (diary number 106xx). I was told then that the wait time was 7 to 24 months.

I began writing to Migri in late 2024 – in polite Finnish! – and asking for updates. They always responded promptly. In November 2024, they said my application could be processed by April 2025. In March, they revised their estimate to summer 2025. When I wrote last month, they responded on 22 August with apologies for the backlog and said that they were processing applications in my queue with diary numbers issued on 31 July 2023.

So, I hope that Migri will notify me soon that processing has begun.

Thanks a lot for your answer and i hope you will get decision soon , please let me know when you get decision, in my point of you is not fair that they promise a time line and than they just change it while prioritizing new applications, i also hope to get an answer soon

I also applied late October 2024, and still waiting. My friends who applied 3 months earlier than me, got their decisions in the summer. So our decision may come at any time these days. But, given the summer holidays + more applications in Sept 2024, I would guess our time will arrive by the end of this year. But let's hope it comes earlier.

Same here. It was quite active in August but suddenly quiet this month. I don't receive any automatic message since 25 July either. Not sure what the current situation is.
