I suppose you've never lived in a very small Finnish village ;) In the big city it is not that important, no. Theres an urban threshold.
But at the moment, I'm wearing dark green-plaid pajama bottoms, a lighter green shirt, and a bit of a sweater.
Heck, if I'd post here what I wanted I'd probably be arrested so I won't.
sorry if I just offended or pissed off anybody around here.
Damn, thats another trait you need to drop. You ever see me apologizing for offending someone?

I'm glad if I offended anybody - Give us an offer on our best selection of offence. This is a offence blowout! We got white offence, black offence, spanish offence, we got hot offence, cold offence, we got silk offence, velvet offence, naugahyde offence, we even got horse offence, dog offence, chicken offence. Come on. You want offence? Attention, offence seekers! Take advantage of our penny offence sale. lf you buy one piece of offence at the regular price... you'll get another piece of offence of equal or lesser value for only a penny. Try and beat offence for a penny!

But Hank, I have lived in a small Finnish village! I live in Yli-kiiminki, ya'll! I'll get much better at this someday, someday... I think.

Ylikiiminki (note spelling!) is a small village, indeed.

Really? You think that's the wrong way to spell it? I mean, sure, it's usually spelt like Ylikiiminki, but I see it done both ways all the time.

Well. :) All it means is "Over Kiiminki" anyhow, and I've just always seen a lot of Swedish-speaking Finns, at least, spelling it with a bit of a hyphen. I usually spell it all as one word myself, though. I think I've picked up far too many funny but bad habits from one of my friends.

Well, at least you've got 29 street names, Esso and ABC there, which already counts as civilization. And ABC often means warm lounas, too. And above all - Yli-Kiiminki it's just a cute little town... Although at this point I wouldn't be able to tell apart Ylikiiminki, Alavieska, Liperi, Ii, Yli-Ii, Kiuruvesi, Virrat, Juankoski, Tammela, Ylämylly, Alahärma, Pudasjärvi......

Only rule is that if you choose to wear it, you have to wear it for
the rest of your life. But it's not mandatory. And it's actually
a skirt (something like 16 m of fabric in one of those :o)
Hank W. wrote: Like the Sami and wearing a 4-corner cap if you're not a Sami...
Only certain Sámi wear those hats, the rest of the people wearing
them are tourists. The Sámi outfit is far more diverse than what
is seen in the postcards being touted to tourists around Norway, Sweden
and Finland :p
Hank W. wrote: I'd like to meet an American that would go "I am a yeaa-haa yankee doodle dandy" I am proud of my culture - I the wannabes just lack it...
Problem sets in when your own American culture differs greatly
from everyone elses. In Chicago, I'm American, but if I go anywhere
else in the country, I'm a weird Italian-American who is definitely
not 100% American due to the fact that I don't have a shotgun
hung in the cab of my pickup. I was too light to speak Spanish as
my mother tongue (actually my father's, but same diff) and too dark
to be 100% an English-speaking WASP.

I could myself care less about any of it. I am who I am and if someone
doesn't like it, they can stuff it.

First of January 2009 Ylikiiminki seizes to exist as a municipal, and it'll be part of Oulu.

Hm. Neat. But it's really far away from Oulu. :? Why are they wanting to do that? Ain't Ylikiiminki good all on its own?

Kuntaliitokset = municipalitycoupling freely translated . This has happened alot in the last few years . The goal is to save money with this.

There is even a page about this case. http://www.ouka.fi/kuntaliitos/
