World Championships in Canada
Re: World Championships in Canada
A bit of blow, that. But the overall performance wasn't that bad. Canada punished almost everything, starting from thirty seconds in. Ridiculous finish for the second goal, two shorthanded goals conceded and when a wayward shot goes in off your defender's head, you know it's not your day. I hate to use such a cliché as that (in lieu of explanation), but I think the game could've gone very differently had one or two pivotal situations not developed as they did. Just need to tighten up the defence and keep the workrate up and move on. They're not playing sh*te - scoring three goals against Canada isn't a disgrace...

5 hours of hockey and no UEFA Cup final? Mr Jungner really does not want people to pay their tv licences, does he?

Who now would be interested in kick-ball what little children do?

Perhaps he recognises shrewdly that the great body of the Finnish public would rather watch jocks with pucks than Jock getting f'**ked over by Zenit.
A bizarre and disappointing comment, considering that you ARE in Finland. Would you expect to make the same remark about the BBC's non-existent coverage of cross-country skiing or ski-jumping? Or NBC's failure to cover Warwickshire vs. Yorkshire at Headingley during the NBA play-offs?
I suspect another factor was the price being asked. In terms of cost-effectiveness, a package deal on the hockey comes out relatively cheap.

My sentiments entirely. Our John Arne "I'm sorry boss, I can't give you a lift, I'm not heading your way" would have been proud.Salopian wrote:A bit of blow, that. I agree on the "scoring three goals", except the manner and timing of two of them - after the Lord Mayor's Show. Canada were in the comfort zone by then.
Re: World Championships in Canada
John Arne is held in high esteem on the blue half. No bitterness at all!
The match is on at 2am Finnish tonight/tomorrow. Not sure about staying/getting up to watch it, even though there 'could be fireworks' after the last encounter...
Yup yup, hence the laughter. Though it's really not funny.otyikondo wrote: I agree on the "scoring three goals", except the manner and timing of two of them - after the Lord Mayor's Show. Canada were in the comfort zone by then.

The World Championships are poor quality hockey played by tired players who've been knocked out of the proper competition. It's a joke tournament that isn't even on free TV in the country it's played in. Finland is in Europe, and in every other country in Europe the final of the UEFA Cup is on free-to-air television, but then the rest of Europe isn't populated by SUOMISUOMISUOMI chanting morons.otyikondo wrote:TampereOwl wrote:5 hours of hockey and no UEFA Cup final? I'm sure I could do you a deal on plastic bowler hats with The Sun's logo on, you'd just have to paint the cross blue instead of red.
Re: World Championships in Canada
I cannot see the games so I'm curious on one point; how is Backstrom playing in the nets?
Mark I. implied in an earlier post that he was letting in too many shots. Nicklas B. had a great season for the MN Wild. However one thing that was very frustrating in the NHL playoffs is that he would make a couple of great saves and then let in a soft one (like a shot from center ice, or from behind the net).
I like Finland's chances vs. the USA. It would be very nice to go into these final games with a hot goalie.
Finland 6, USA 4. Backstrom come up with a big game, & the Koivus score twice.
On a different set of hockey playoffs, the other night I watched part of the Dallas-Detroit semifinal Stanley Cup match. Tho' I hate the Red Wings, I must admit they looked awesome; I haven't seen that level of play and game control since the CCCP/ Soviet Red Army days. They have now won 9 playoff games in a row, and they might not lose again until the Cup is theirs. (Then all the Swedes on that team can go home and crow all summer.

The UEFA CUP is poor quality football played by crap teams who've didn't manage to make it to the real UEFA competition, the Champion's league. It's a joke tournament.TampereOwl wrote:The World Championships are poor quality hockey played by tired players who've been knocked out of the proper competition. If Finland wants to show Icehockey instead of the Football like some other countries in of Europe, it's their decision and I'll take it like an adult and not like the crowd of SCOTLAND SCOTLAND SCOTLAND/ENGERLAND ENGERLAND ENGERLAND chanting m*r*ns who try to compensate for not playing in the European Championships.

What kind of polling have you done to come on here and state what 'Finland wants'? I know plenty of Finns who are rather pissed off about this.pierrot wrote:The UEFA CUP is poor quality football played by crap teams who've didn't manage to make it to the real UEFA competition, the Champion's league. Re: World Championships in Canada
yeah I am quite sure that the majority of Finns want to see the finals of a worthless football cup with teams from Scotland and Russia rather than a world championship of the favorite sports where their own country plays.TampereOwl wrote:What kind of polling have you done to come on here and state what 'Finland wants'? The media coverage should answer your question.
Just stop sulking, get a life and watch the uefa crap via the net.

Re: World Championships in Canada
Do you know the first thing about 'the media coverage' and what is going on here, or who makes the decisions? And your solution would tend to confirm that my original solution (keeping my €200 next year) was bang on the money, no?
