Hi all,

I got back my license after completing the driving ban, but its an offense and its on my criminal record. I was wondering if I apply for a job, will I be rejected on the basis of having a criminal record??? Any advise would be useful. Thanks

What criminal record? You don't get one unless you get jail/probation.

And so it stays there for 5 years. I wouldn't start planning career involving driving or dangerous materials (guns/explosives)... there aren't that many jobs that can ask for official criminal record and dui wouldn't necessarily be the end of it, but if there is other people who don't have one or if you have said that you don't have record, then the more more reliable one would be probably selected for job.

I dont have any ideas for a driving job or a job involving explosives. I work in the IT field.

There are companies that do an assessment test and background check. So my question is will i be rejected if I say I committed this offence? I really dont want to lie my way into any job and will tell if asked. So thats basically what i am worried about !

I was about to mention IT as one possibility that will do background checks. Consulting/subcontracting in government IT or datacenter that holds some government IT... http://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turvallisuusselvitys
Iirc they don't do those that much in private sector anymore, as they got some flack for doing them for no reason. Very faint memory that dui was one of the cases that shouldn't matter in principle but does in practice. Or it was doing pot, or both... can't remember.

Thanks a lot for the links Upphew. So does that mean that when an IT company does reference checks, they probably dont reject people based on just drunken driving offense????

No, but you'll score lower than someone without a record.

Lying during the selection process will bite you in the ass when they find out later.
