Dunno if this was reply to me, but please read the whole thread before making these kinda shots in the dark with random comments.raskarhu wrote:Hei
My woman is a Finn living in Brussels, Belgium. She has studied here. She works in Belgium, she pays taxes. I am very happy for her. It's quite sad to see that some Finns don't want to give foreign students the same opportunities. I think that, as a whole, you'll never be able to calculate what the actual benefit or loss is to your society when inviting foreigners to come over to your country to study there...or to just live there...or ...
And singling out foreigners just for an ID check? Quite a discriminating practice if you ask me... But then again in Finland this is very easy: you only have some 2 to 3 percent of foreigners (and most of them are not even Black or Brown, because that seems to be the decisive element ...). If the police were to check the ID of foreigners in Brussels, they would do overtime every day!!!![]()
Ever thought about white muslims?
Ever thought about checking the ID of American citizens? They are part of a nation that committed one of the greatest crimes in humanity of the last years. But no! Of course not, Americans are white defenders of our so civilized western Hemisphere.
I think there are bigger problems in Finland then some illegal aliens and some foreign students coming over to the nice Suomi.

Okie
juste un autre étudiant lâche
Lets get back to the topic..Who now actually has the real say as to what the police can or cannot do?
Parliament ?
The Police powers say that they already have that power..so why not enforce them to do ID checks..
If they have the responsibility and authority to do it, then so be it!! whats wrong with just showing your ID..no matter who is asked for.
( not the question of what is being done..But the Police are trained to at least identify suspicious looking people etc..so whats wrong with that? if it eliminates a lot of criminal elements)

Yes, the question is how they decide who to check... smells like curry, ID please! The ombudsman report for parliament I posted somewhere expresses concern of "inappropriate" reasons like skin color.

Apparently you and Debo mistake simple logic...raskarhu wrote: And singling out foreigners just for an ID check? Quite a discriminating practice if you ask me... We have group which represents X amount of population. However, they, for one reason or another, are responsible for 3X of crimes.
It means that when you check out this group, you are far more likely to find criminal activity and be able to take proper action than if you check some other group.
Whenever any single group starts to be responsible for crimes over what is their percentage of population, police not only should but MUST crack down on this group of people to clean it up. If you want to find an ant, your best bet is to go to nest where they represent largest proportion from animals.
Same with criminals. If group is disproportionally criminal (and illegal alien is criminal)... You give it disproportional attention to reduce it.
Same reason why instead of raiding "Humppaveikot ry" or other similar organisations clubhouse police goes and kicks in door of Bandidos or Hell's Angels.
Yeah, they are trying to start islamic party in FinlandEver thought about white muslims?
You presume too much of finnish love towards americans (or russians). Finland has this thing called "Herraviha". Ask your wife what it is and how it is manifested.Ever thought about checking the ID of American citizens? Foreign students, welcome.I think there are bigger problems in Finland then some illegal aliens and some foreign students coming over to the nice Suomi.
Illegal (thus by default criminal) aliens, no welcome.
If Finland has bigger issues, it is no excuse to let small issues lay and grow bigger. Cut them off when they are growing and you do not have several big issues to deal with in future.

Re: Why foreigners are so often a topic in the news
Well, its evident in the EU-discussion. Some "overseas power" is making rules, so the instinct is to oppose any "given above" rules just out of the principle. Especially if its some foreigner (them fat, stupid, rich, don't know anything of hardships of life, privileged peoples)... Then you go to the boondocks, some "Helsinki power" is making rules, so the instinct is to oppose any "given above" rules just out of the principle. Especially if its some Helsinkian (them fat, stupid, rich, don't know anything of hardships of life, privileged peoples)...Tiwaz wrote: Finland has this thing called "Herraviha".
