We haven't had any good news lately in group, any updates? Today i received an automatic message from migri, that the processing of my application is ongoing. It will be 4 month of processing soon which makes me anxious. Based on my experience from this chat, long process times doesn't end well 🙁

Well, long processing is still better than endless stage 1 :D

For me, it’s still kinda strange that the information about backlogs has been published first time 5.2021 and then each time the new information felt like “copy-paste” that they try to solve the issue. Also, for 2022 Migri has agreed to clear the backlog, then after it was unsuccessful, they want to do it by the end of this year. Based on statistics, it seems that backlog is going to continue until at least the end of 2024 🤔 And we can expect the same kind of press-release this year, that “we try to expedite backlogs by means of automation, we have hired new people, wait patiently”. A little bit gloomy, but okay

Hi guys, got my positive decision today. For the statistics:

Visited Migri : 22.02.2023
Moved to stage 2: 03.08.2023
Citizenship granted 04.08.2023

Background : EU citizen, uni diploma from Finland, and now working in Finland. Passed YKI keskitaso with highest grades. Queue number was somewhere in the low 4000, did not check every day.

Following this forum was a great help. Best of luck to all!
Congratulations     !! Less than six months... super fast compared to most.

Yep, those people are just not sharing their progress here   Among the people I personally know, 5 out of 7 got their decision in approximately 6 months, one got after 4 months, and one waited for 9. Meanwhile, it’s almost 11 months for me  Thinking about hiring the lawyer in a couple of months, like someone mentioned above, because I honestly don’t see any reason why my application takes so much longer. Maybe I’ll at least get the reasoning behind long process

The average Somali and Iraqi costs Finland €12,000 per person, per year.

How about the average Ukrainian refugee? Are they cheaper or more expensive?
We'll likely need to wait another year before this information is available.
Currently though Ukrainian refugees are being paid for mostly by Poland. However, they recently cut this amount by half because it was absolutely crippling their economy: https://www.euractiv.com/section/politi ... s-by-half/
Poland has agreed to pay for Ukrainians even who move overseas. Though now a lot are returning to Ukraine because there hasn't been any real significant attacks in a very long time. Everything is already mostly blown up.

In any case, to answer your question I think it depends on the person in the case of Ukrainians. Where Somalis and Iraqis have generally no interest in working or integrating in Finland. Ukrainians could have a higher degree of work-ethic. The single mothers, of which are the majority however likely cost a lot. I've seen a few men here too who fled conscription, though I only met one personally and he was mostly trying to convince people to work for free on some project of his, with the promise of pay "someday" in the future if the idea ever made money. So far, anecdotally I haven't seen any news or even personal mention that Ukrainians are contributing to Finland. It's likely only the other way around.

One thing is for certain though. Ukraine will never have independence. Even after the "war" is over. They already owe trillions in debt, mostly to the US. Who will scoop them up piece-by-piece. The country will never recover and that was the whole point. Russia's economy on the other hand hasn't even been scratched.

EDIT: In support we seem to have wasted 1 billion: https://um.fi/finland-s-support-to-ukraine
84% went to "defense". Only 14% of that was spent in humanitarian aid. Sad, we have a lot of blood on our hands. Though this is Ukraine's fault in that they only ever ask for human soldiers, bombs, guns, missiles, drones, artillery, tanks etc.

Almost 14 months of waiting here, and all people whom I know got their decision within 5 - 7 months, even from the same country and background. If you consider hiring a lawyer, would it be okay to send you a private message? I am interested to go through this way too.
Why? Don't you understand the concept of patience? What do you "need" citizenship for, that you'd even consider hiring a lawyer?
A lawyer is there when the law or justice system has failed you. This is not the case at all. You're waiting patiently for a privilege that you have applied for.

I've been waiting 5 months longer than you have. I'll wait another 5 months if need be. That's then 2 years. Then I'll wait another 5 if I have to.
Why anyone would spend €2000 on a lawyer + the original €550 they spent on this application, just to maybe speed things up a few weeks/months is utterly mental. Just be patient and wait.

The last thing this country needs are impatient people who can't even hang tight on a decision like this and maintain their dignity.

Sure! However, I will give Migri time until maybe 13th or 14th month, so the plan to "lawyer up" in my case will start no sooner than in October.

No way you are going to hire a lawyer over this

Stop the cap.

A couple of days. If it's Friday stage 2 then you will get the decision on Monday.

May I know when did you apply and what the queue number was then and now if it's on stage 2 in the process?

Mostly, those who have applied within the last 6 months experience a Stage 2 processing time of just a few days or sometimes a few hours.

There were few similar quick stage 2 process posts over FB Group. I am quoting that.
