For the first time I smelled that from a yellow lemon. Sliced, sealed in fridge for a week and then one slice of it turned very sweet and spicy when opened, but others are oddly normal.
Water made from the other half of the same lemon already smelled slightly different, less acidic and a bit sweet. There is no mold or discolor I can see outside or inside. Could it be infected with something or a local variant?
PS: I didn't taste it of course; don't want to eat invisible mold or fungus.

Sweet and spicy lemon?!

I'd love that. But spicy seems toxic no?
Long ago I bought fresh juice of some fruit, left it in backpack and walked hours under the sun - when I got home the bottle literally exploded and it smelled pepper spicy, bubbles everywhere.

That sounds unhealthy. Be great on some Mexican food if it was safe to eat though!
