Specialist permit and end of employment.

Post by Ahmed1196 » Tue Nov 22, 2022 4:01 am

Hey, hope everyone is doing great! I had some questions regarding the specialist permit and especially what happens if you lose your job. I have heard that migri cancels your permit as soon as you lose or quit your job. However, this page (End of employment: https://migri.fi/en/end-of-employment) on migri's site says the following:

"If your employment has ended and you cannot find a new job, you must leave Finland when your residence permit expires, at the latest."

Does this mean I can stay till the expiration date of my permit?

My other question would be, how do I know that my permit is tied to the employer, or am I free to change jobs in the same field? My employer was not involved in the application process at all!

If anyone has any experience regarding this, please help a brother out! Thank you!

Migri wrote: Your residence permit may be cancelled if the grounds on which it was granted no longer exist. This may for example happen if your residence permit was granted for working in Finland but your employment relationship has ended.
If your residence permit has not been cancelled, the rights it gives end when it expires.

In these cases, it is enough that you have a valid permit for the same type of work.

If you have been granted a residence permit for a certain type of work and you wish to do another type of work, you usually need a new residence permit. In these cases, you are not allowed to work in your new job until you have been granted the permit.

This is impossible. Even if they start the process it will take some time to be final (a very long time with appeals).
