Yeah I know one needs to notify migri prior to traveling out of the country so they don’t make a decision while you are away. However, in the unlikely scenario that they do grant you citizenship while you are outside of Finland maybe due to an oversight on their part even after haven notified them of your exit, does anybody know how one could re-enter the country or if it’s possible at all ?
I was abroad when migri started to process my application. I knew that it is better to inform them before the trip, but I didn't really cared about it. So, they sent me a request, something like:
"According to our data you left Finland on day xx.xx.2023. Tell us when you are planning to go back and send the answer within two weeks. If you will not answer in two weeks the decision can be negative".
I came back to Finland in two days after the request and decision was positive.

But I also know a woman who received citizenship while was abroad. As she explained it was ok to come back with permit in this kind of situation. Border guards cannot refuse to let a Finnish citizen into Finland.

So, the worst scenario that can happen is like this:
applicant don't notify migri about trip > mirgi starts processing and send a request > applicant missing a request and don't answer > negative decision

Additionally, they informed me that my current queue is processing applications from September 2021, so I can expect to hear back from them sometime this spring.
And they didn't lie!
My citizenship application process finally started this morning. Just 40 minutes after receiving the email notification, I got an SMS. When I checked enterfinland, it was a 'congratulations' message! ;)
For those who are curious, my identity was confirmed on October 28, 2021. I hope this timeline can provide a bit of insight for those of you still not in the process.

Best of luck to everyone else who's still waiting!

Nice, about time they got to those people in 2021. That's still 1½ years ago, so they are way behind.

The average Somali and Iraqi costs Finland €12,000 per person, per year.

In the news today the Finns Party is seeking changes such as limiting the right to seek asylum in Finland to internal European refugees and restricting the right to social security solely to Finnish citizens.

Funny, I was just reading that news item, too. The second bit, reserving social security benefits for Finnish CITIZENS exclusively, won't fly. Nowhere else in the world are permanent residents excluded from social security coverage, to my knowledge.

It’s just crazy how supposed leaders would reason like that but then again they are the leaders of the populist party so yeah I understand.
