Post by real2 » Fri Jan 13, 2023 4:46 pm

hello everyone.

i am the Father of a 19 year old Finnish citizen who lives in Finlad, is it possible to apply for RP based on family ties? i a little confused, because he is over 18 years old and considered an adult so i dont know if i cant apply as his guardian i have tried to look for information about adult childs but found only that i can apply if my child is under 18 years.

please some advise on how can i proceed if my child is over 18 years. or what can i do?

thank you

hi,

In Finnish legal system there's no such concept as "adult child". Since he is over 18, legally he's an adult and you are not his guardian.
Residence permits on family ties work for partners or children or the sponsor, but not for parents of adult sponsors.

In this situation, you would need to apply on other grounds for a residence permit. For example as a student, worker, researcher, etc
