My friend Kath has just opened up a great little whole family game shop in Helsinki called LUDUS. It has lots of high quality things you don't always see in Finland. Besides having fantstic whole family games like SET , (check it out http://www.setgame.com/ online.) Quiddler and a bunch of snap games like Euro snap, My first Number snap and Fractions and Shapes snap, there are a few really good Shakespeare and Roman Empire and Egypt (if I remember correctly)board games for us big kids. There are really fine kites in all sizes and small wooden things as well as marbles of all sorts! So worth dropping by and having a look. I got so excited when I saw all the stuff. Much nicer than other toy stores and most of it is from England or the States (with Finnish instructions included in most cases). I bought a bunch of games and we had a great family game evening and now I know what a few people will be getting for Christmas presents...
Kath is open to suggestions if there is something you want she will look into it, and she of course speaks English
It's on/in Flemminginkatu 12 a (you can find it on Journey Planner http://www.ytv.fi/eng )you'll see a bright whirlygig outside the door BUT she is only open THURSDAYS 2-6 p.m. FRIDAYS 2-6 p.m. and SATURDAYS 10-4 p.m. She has a new site but not much on it yet, but it's nice and worth checking later http://www.ludus.fi and email info@ludus.fi
Computer games are fun but nothing is quite like having a bunch of friends over playing real good old fashioned games. I use lots of them when teaching.
