If anyone has some spare time, could they give me the translations of these lyrics by Zen Cafe? I just love this song!

Here is the first verse in my translation :

You are my wind shelter,

the walls of my house and the mail I get,

I read you a long time every morning

Someone might have a much better translation. I must say that I do not like this kind of poetry.

Sure it is

However in translation you miss the rhymes, so the original makes at least that kind of sense, I mean it makes artistic sense with the music. Though personally I do not very much like Zen Cafe as such, their lyrics are pretty clever and do have various layers.

Translations sometimes turn awry the other way around, by the way. I remember some years ago there was a Sade concert on the Finnish telly... the lyrics "you gave me a kiss that's like / a kiss of life" were translated as "annoit minulle suudelman joka oli kuin tekohengitystä"

Well, that's not the easiest piece of poetry for studying Finnish, but I guess it's still easier than Ismo Alanko or Värttinä..
Not my favourite song though.

Personally I like the band. Lyrics often reach a very specific, cultural (Finnish) atmosphere , and not try to tell about everything(or nothing) in the same song.
They also have songs about very serious and hard social issues of Finland, including domestic violence, sexual abuse, social side-effects of the heavy drinking culture etc. Yet it's often just called pop band in the radio. Not everybody likes the music, or the way the singer articulates for example, but many of their songs are definitely worth listening and thinking.

Ps. I'm impressed by the translations on this one. Seems like we have professionals here.

That's my "piece de resistance" actually

As said, I rather like their lyrics but personally I don't particularly like the declamatory, clipped delivery of Mr Putro... I agree with you, it's not "just" a pop band though.
