more questions about moving to finland!

Post by heathergjesdal » Wed Sep 21, 2005 1:37 am

I have been told in order to move to finland from canada I needot have 6000 e in my bank account. Is this true? I have a boyfriend living in finland who I will be staying with so I suppose he will be something like a sponsor.

I have read websites about residence permits but how do I actually go about getting one, where can I apply?

Thank you:)

Well, if you are applying as a student, being admitted into the university you do.

Try reading http://www.uvi.fi - remebering you are in the non-EU category;
and then come up with a question explaining exactly what you are and exactly what you want to do.

basically. unless you are married;
- having a job
- having a study place
are the prerequisites for applying in the work/student categories.

I guess it really depends on how long you are staying in Finland for...When I applied for my residence permit I had to show I had access to a certain amount of money (I'm pretty sure that includes credit cards, loans, etc.). All I did was print out a copy of my internet bank statement (not an official statement from my bank) and I had no problem...although I am only here for 4 months...

The best thing to do is visit Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs website: http://www.fac-aec.gc.ca/menu-en.asp and check out the consular affairs section or check out the Embassy of Finland in Canada's website: http://www.finland.ca/en/ and this will tell you what forms you need to fill out and send in, etc...I was lucky because I live in Ottawa so I could visit the embassy and talk to someone there directly...

All in all, it is very easy for Canadians to get res permits for Finland...

Yes very easy to get a residence permit if the gov't feels you have a purpose here. Julie M. is studying here and I myself am working here. It took me less than 2 weeks to get a residence permit, but apparently somebody in gov't thought my job skills were needed here. You will need either a job offer or be accepted to a university, or find some way around the family ties thing...

Hi, One option could be working holiday - visa in finland. But as other did mention it depends how long you intend to stay and obviously of your citizenship. To be honest I am not totally sure which countries are entitled for this WH-program

Thank you everyone for the help. I am planning to stay at least 1 year probably two or more. Does this make any difference?

Yes. When you come here talk nothing about leaving. Why would someone give a job to someone who will go after they learn the job?
