My spouse has been in Finland awaiting the decision of a family ties residence permit. At the beginning of this week, I had a strange panic/hysteria/delusional episode, a proper autistic meltdown and all, and I called the police on my dear husband. He ended up in custody, but was there for less than 24 hours. I have medication for this, but it doesn’t work — it was prescribed to me when I was a child. I have many diagnoses and so on.
The very next morning the interrogations and all that started, and we both said exactly the same things, not even knowing that we were talking about the same issues. Basically, there is long-standing evidence that my mental health problems are the reason behind this, and I gave permission for them to look into that history. The suspicions in the investigation were serious offences such as assault; I was completely out of it and confused about my own actions. I’ve been trying to get medication for these symptoms for many months, but I’ve been waiting 6 months to see a psychiatrist and haven’t seen a doctor yet. It’s unclear how things will proceed — whether I might be the next one to be accused of making false claims or whether it will proceed regarding my spouse. At least a few weeks will go by before the whole thing is closed. I said that I demand the whole case be closed, as I’m not pressing any charges against my husband, and as a “victim,” I feel that no crime has taken place. The police explained that many of their clients are people like me, who don’t get help early enough, etc.
From Migri's website and the Aliens Act, an open criminal investigation can be grounds for a negative decision, or my spouse could be considered a threat to public order or safety. How should I act in this situation, or how have you handled similar situations? He’s in the middle of the residence permit process. Could deportation be possible now? Will he have the right to appeal the decision?
