If someone out there has access to a Finnish dictionary could you please look up and translate the complete definition of the word Uhma. I know it means "youth defiance" but I need the complete dictionary listing including the pronunciation, parts of speech, definition(s), and word variations. I also need this information translated into English. Thanks in advance for any help I recieve.

This is what my trusty dictionary says!:

"uhma defiance~aminen(m) defiance (of danger vaaran~) ~ikä(läh v) negative age (stage); period of negativism, obstinate age ~ikäinen..at the negative stage ~ileva, ~kas, ~mielinen defiant (attitude asenne; child lapsi)

Hope this helps - there is loads more, but not really relevant to your original post. If you want the rest, let me know!

I think it's possible to undestant "uhma" as resistance.

Most likely: to resist authority / authorities.

I am sure uhma is not only connected to youth. It can be used in that context but it is not limited to that. There is an name for small childrens age , uhmaikä.
