. outage

Post by Phil » Sun Sep 14, 2003 1:09 pm

As many of you discovered, . went down sometime last night, possibly around midnight-ish.

For some reason, our webhost changed the ports to the database server which caused the error message you saw. I figured this out a few minutes ago and we went back online at 1:10pm on Sunday.

I have no idea why they did this, they haven't responded to any of my e-mails yet.

Thanks to everyone who contacted me and notified me of this problem!!

Sorry for the inconvience!!

On my memory it's a third time this happens. Previous ones were short (only for a few hours). This one was long.

This was I longest yet I think.

I found out why it went down exactly, they upgraded the MySQL server and somehow it changed the port number.

Yeah, one needs to rebuild the index database every now and then on MySQL too - usually that gives a lot more grief.

Still far fewer than "smart" groups!!

When choosing between two evils, always choose the one you haven't tried yet.
