I took the level 3 test at the end of October and just got my certificate in the mail last week.

I took the first Finnish language course at Helsinki University in 2000, skipped the second course because I thought I didn't need it (mistake), and took the third course at Tampere University in 2003. I had to take the final exam for the third course twice before passing it. I don't speak Finnish at home and not very often at work, but I still managed to pass the exam.

The test lasted more than 5 hours (10.00 - 15.15), with no lunch break. I have low blood sugar, so an advance warning of this would have been appreciated. We did have two 15 minute breaks, but not enough time to leave the building and go find a restaurant.

One tip to anyone wanting to take the test: make sure you reserve your spot 2-3 months in advance. The tests seem to always fill up well in advance, and then you might have to travel somewhere out in the middle of nowhere to take the test.

NOTE: The test fee is 77 euros, payable in advance. No refund if you fail the test!!!
