Finnish dvd like Schoolhouse Rock?

Post by Xochiquetzal » Tue Dec 13, 2005 2:19 pm

Are there any fun Finnish language dvds I could buy for my 3 year old along the lines of the grammar rock or multiplication rock in the SchoolHouse Rock series? We've been singing the Lolly Lolly Adverb Song and the Conjunction Junction all the time lately and she just loves them a lot. I'd really like something fun and musical and cartoony in Finnish for her - but with a strong educational value (I don't expect her to learn now, I just want to her to develop a familiarity and love of languages)

Incidentally, if someone has an interest in Chinese for their kids, I can recommend Mei Mei & Me. You can order it from the US and it is a musical journey through the Chinese language using simple fairy tale songs and dances geared towards the younger set. http://www.meimeiandme.com/ It's great fun for my rugrat to sing and dance to Mary Had A Little Lamb in Chinese.

Now, I need to find a good Mexican-Spanish (yes, I have a Mexican accent with my Spanish, so sue me) DVD for her.

Thanks in advance!

Dragontales comes in Spanish and English, although it's pretty funny
to hear some of them speak Spanish. Thanks for the Chinese hint!
I'm supposed to be learning Chinese and could use that myself :D

That dragontales was perfect! It has a strong Mexican influence/accent (and hey, the dragon's name is the male namesake of my nick here!). Thanks! We played on the official website tonight and now my daughter keeps yelling "Louhikaarme! Louhikaarme!" to play on it again.

If you haven't visited the Multilingual Babies board at Baby Center, you really should go have a browse. I remember different discussions about where to order Chinese/Spanish/Russian, etc language material for kids. Not only have the posts on that board been helpful and informative, one of the members has another bulletin board that appears to be in French. I used my leet French skills to find this for you:

The Baby Center board is at:

I do recall reading on that board that Dora the Explorer is multilingual and speaks primarily French in France and teaches a few words in English. I have no reason to believe that she doesn't speak other languages in other countries. (Or will soon.) That might appeal to Maia, but perhaps not Tapio, Risto and Kallio so much.

Ok thanks. Honestly, I have a low threshold of tolerance for a lot of the Babycenter lately. Maia's birthboard is hella popular - 50+ posts a day and sometimes nearly all of it is vapid. Blechh. I've even dropped off the photography board as well.

The problem with having a kid: it interferes with my grand design of being an asocial hermit :(

I understand. Neither of Reino's birth boards are active. He was edd September, but is an August baby. Both boards had a split and the bulk of the original members are on different sites. I visit both, but don't post often. The Multilingual Babies board has had some great info there. Just have a browse and see if there is anything useful. You can also post a direct question and expect an answer within a couple of days.

I belong to a Finnish mailing list for both Tapsa and Risto, but only
Tapsa's list is active. And actually the group that's left is rather great.
We get together once a year and go camping + various other small
activities throughout the year. Risto's list will most likely die a painful
death in the next couple of months.

Try ivillage over babycenter.
I find it much easier to read the boards...especially the co.uk one.

Hananh

I have to say ivillage is better as I CL 2 boards! LOL
