translation needed

Post by Kate » Tue Dec 13, 2005 8:40 pm

Hi,

I'm going to finland next month and I'm learning the Finnish language for the moment. Thursday I need to doe a Little sketch. But I'm not able to translate it. Can someone do it for me?

this is the sketch in english:

Hellow, Kate speaking. Who am I talking to?
- You are talking to Peter, I think my wife is in labour!
Does she has contractions?
- Yes, there are five minutes between each contraction.
Is she loosing blood or water?
-Yes, she lost a sort of clear water.
That's lapsivessi. Tell your wife she musn't walk around.
- Is there something else I need to do?
Yes, it's important to stay calm! You' ll have to come to the hospital.
-Is there something I have to bring with me?
You have to take her passport and don't forget the laukku.
-OK, we are coming! Thank you!
Stay calm and be carefull!

Thanks!

In Finnish:

Haloo, Kate puhelimessa, kenen kanssa puhun?
- Puhut Peterin kanssa, luulen että vaimoni synnyttää!
Onko hänellä supistuksia?
- Kyllä viiden minuutin välein.
Vuotaako hänellä verta tai vettä?
- Kyllä, häneltä on tullut sellaista aika kirkasta vettä.
Se on lapsivesi. Kerro vaimollesi ettei hänen pidä kävellä.
- Onko mitään muuta mitä minun pitäisi tehdä?
Kyllä, on tärkeää pysyä tyynenä. Teidän täytyy tulla sairaalaan.
- Onko jotain mitä minun pitää tuoda mukanani?
Sinun täytyy ottaa hänen passinsa, äläkä unohda käsilaukkua.
- Ok, olemme tulossa! Kiitoksia!
Pysykää rauhallisina ja olkaa varovaisia!

Ole hyvä.

My God, they do teach you all the essential phrases, eh? My English language textbooks back then did not include such stuff!

I thought the Finnish exercises would rather be on the lines of, say, buying some bread and asking where the nearest bus stop would be :lol::lol:

(Of course, knowing the words/terms in Finnish may be necessary if you're pregnant but I couldn't help finding the thing a bit funny!)

I know it seems funny. The thing is I'm studying for being a midwife. And I need to tell something about my study. You see?

And therefor I'm very thankfull to him or her!
I haven't got enough Finnish lessons to make it. That's the problem.

I have another 4 sentences:

A woman normally delivers when the pregnancy is about 40 weeks

It all happens in 2 fases.
Labour and delivery

Other possible signals can be: losing blood or losing lapsivessi

What do you have to do:
Stay down when you lose lapsivessi
Going to the hospital

If there is someone that wants to translate this, I'd be very thankfull to him!

Big kiss

Why not giving it some effort yourself? By try & error here. Take it as a challenge.

Nainen synnytää neljä kymmentä liottaa normaali

It all happens in two fases

Labour : työnteko
Delivery : synnytys

Other possible signals can be: losing blood or losing lapsivessi

What do you have to do: Tämä on ...?

Stay down when you lose lapsivessi
Going to the hospital

The things in English are the things I realy don't know!

Please please help me! I have to bring it in class.

What is your native language, Kate? I'm not familiar with the word "fase" and I've been speaking English all my life.

Kate

>> A woman normally delivers when the pregnacy is about 40 weeks <<

Tavallisesti synnytys tapahtuu noin neljänkymmenen raskausviikon jälkeen.

>> It all happens in two phases . Labour and delivery <<

Se tapahtuu kahdessa vaiheessa. Synnytyspoltot ja itse synnytys.

>>Other possible signals can be : losing blood or losing the amniotic fluid <<

Muita mahdollisia merkkejä voivat olla : verenvuoto tai lapsiveden meno

>>What do you have to do when you lose the amniotic fluid, stay down or go to the hospital ? <<

Mitä sinun tulee tehdä kun lapsivesi on mennyt,jäädä makaamaan pitkällesi vai lähteä sairaalaan?

The correct answer to this question is that you should go to a hospital.

amniotic fluid = lapsivesi ( not "lapsivessi" )

Milloin mennä sairaalaan ? ( When to go to the hospital ? ) :

I'd have much more respect if that were the approach.

- List the English version
- list your attempt in Finnish, (even if it just means finding the basic forms from a dictionary and stringing them together).

Then ask for corrections.

Not... "please do my homework for me, it's got to be handed in tomorrow."

Sorry, but I get so many similar e-mails to a website I run, asking questions when it's obvious the person just can't be arsed to pick up a book.
