Looking for conversation courses in Helsinki

Post by Keshya » Tue Dec 20, 2005 9:59 pm

Hello there,
I'm new. I'm looking for conversation courses in Helsinki. My passive knowledge of Finnish is at level 5 (Helsingin Yliopisto level), but I cannot speak it fluently, which is why I would like to practise. I live in Helsinki, but since I work as a preschool teacher for German, I speak German most of the time, which means there's almost no chance of improving my spoken Finnish and conversational skills. Helsingin Yliopisto offers only the "ordinary" language courses, and työväenopisto's offer is also very limited, the highest level being level 4, and the only courses available for that level being held in the morning or early afternoon hours. Which means, I can't go, because I'm still at work.

I'd be very grateful if anyone could come up with a few suggestions and/or tips as to which institution aside from Helsingin Yliopisto and Työväenopisto might offer the kind of classes I'm looking for.

Thanks very much in advance, and a happy Christmas to all of you.

Keshya

They sometimes run conversation courses here:

http://www.helsinginaikuisopisto.fi

THis one for example:

120160 Activate Your Spoken Finnish
Tuija Hannula, M.A.
Tuesday 16.00 – 17.30 (2 lessons)
14.3. – 16.5. (10 times)
20 lessons, 50 EUR
This is a conversation course in which you will learn to express yourself and your own opinions in Finnish. Each session will have a topic with accompanying texts as an introduction to the discussion. The cost of the material is included in the price.
