Do you have or even know if it exists such a dictionnary for Finnish spelling and grammar checking in Microsoft Word? Where I work OS and softwares are all in english, so I don't know if tehre is such a thing....

It would be VERY helpful for learners like me.

There is. You need to copy a couple of dictionary files from the Finnish version of Word. So, now you just need to find someone willing to give you the files :-)

Here is an on-line spell-check of Finnish for you :

http://www.lingsoft.fi/cgi-bin/finspell

It checks the spelling of conjugated Finnish words also.

See what it says about "kuylmä" ! :

http://www.lingsoft.fi/cgi-bin/finspell?word=kuylm%E4

and "nauraivat" : http://www.lingsoft.fi/cgi-bin/finspell?word=nauraivat

To "unconjugate" and analyze Finnish words use this morphological analyser :

There is a spellcheck in Word, but it hardly ever gives correct forms. Usually it does more harm than good.

Thanks everybody for the answers.

Kalmisto, the site is very good but I guess it's not exactly what I need. I was not thinking of checking the spelling of individual words, but of a whole text, of words inside a text that might have been mistyped.

I had to write an 800 words essay the other day, that's why I was asking about the spell checker.

I got the Word files from a friend but I can't use them at work, I have to try at home.

Does anybody else have experience with it and find it useless as Argan mentioned here?

Now that I have tried the spell checker, I can disagree with you! I checked my 2 page essay and it was of great help (I mean, I had already sent out the essay, but I still would like to see how good it was). I don't want a spell checker to inflect verbs for me or suggest a different word order or something like that (like Word's spell checker for portuguese does). It's good enough that it highlights the typing mistakes, double consonants missings, etc.

I was very pleased with the result.
