Digital cameras

Post by lonelyhelsinki » Tue May 23, 2006 11:56 am

Do you know good shops to buy digital cameras? I mean the ones which offer a wide range of choices (different brands, models, non-pro & pro). I just know some places:

-- one in the basement of Kamppi and another (only Canon products) on 1st floor of Kamppi

It seems the prices of digital cams here are much higher than other countries, esp. where you can buy in USD's. Could you recommend any other places?

In Finland, camera is spelled kamera.

Store is spelled liike.

Camera store is spelled kameraliike.

There are almost as many camera shops in Finland as there are hairdressers. All of them are expensive if you are comparing them with other countries.

I recommend that you purchase one on your next trip outside of the country, barring that, I would imagine that verkkokauppa is one of your best bets.

Sometimes Rajala has deals on Nikon digital cameras, but again, the prices are nutso.

The kamppi stores i looked in for cameras dont really have cheap prices. (on the camera i bought i paid €100 less than i saw in kamppi.

A couple of places where you can see a range of cameras: Antilla and stockmann,

Also if looking online: http://www.pixmania.com/ have reasonable prices.

Also you can do some comparing of prices:

http://www.mbnet.fi/hintaseuranta/

or

http://www.vertaa.fi/

No one Nikon guards its local sales with seemingly excessive seal:

http://newsroom.finland.fi/stt/showarti ... p=Business
Nikon faces EUR 300,000 fine in Finland

During 2004 and 2005, Nikon e.g. refused to extend its product guarantee to Nikon cameras imported by parallel importers and hence placed consumers in an unequal position depending on where the camera had been purchased," the statement added.

Anttila is good for cameras, they doen't have so much choice at the high end of the scale, but they offer Plussa card holders pretty good deals.

We picked up a mid-range HP R817 from there for €229 a couple of weeks ago. They had been retailing at €349 for a while and were €399 when they came out last Summer. I suppose the drop is since HP have launched a similar 8MP model.

Otherwise the best selection I have seen outside of a camera shop is in Gigantti (owned by Dixons I heard)

If you are familiar with ebay I would suggest to buy from US. And I would suggest to buy Sony. I had different cameras before and I tested 8 different models and the best in quality was Sony.

I paid 50% less including shipping and taxes than in Finland for Sony camera from US.

In germany or UK there are not so cheap as in US.
