Football World Cup shown in English???

Post by DennisS » Tue May 30, 2006 2:25 pm

Does anybody of you know if there is a place in Helsinki that will show the games in English (or German) and live.

Since I do not understand Finnish and don't have a satellite connection at home I would love to find a place like that.

Thanks for any help with this.

Dennis

I know the Outback Bar (part of Eatz) definately used to have Sky Sports, although I haven't been there for a while for a game. I might try it this afternoon for the England Jamaica game

Molly's has sky sports. So you can go there and watch all the games in English with I imagine every other non Finnish speaking football fan. So see you there.
Oh, God, God, God! What on earth was I drinking last night? My head feels like there's a Frenchman living in it.

England - Jamaica is on Sky but will they show the WC games? I couldn't find anything on the Sky Sports WC website as to which games they will show live

http://home.skysports.com/worldcup/

Whereas the BBC website says which games are to be shown on BBC & ITV

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/footbal ... 760751.stm

I have a sneaking suspicion that there won't be any WC games on Sky, anyone know otherwise?

BBC and ITV are available on Sky, so dont panic too much. No Andy Gray but you do get the unnaturally optimistic Gary Linekar and of course Garth Crooks, less said the better there I think.

skysports has no rights to any world cup games and even though BBC and ITV are on sky these bars dont have them. they only have channel 4 and skysports 1.
The best bet is sports academy. Last time england were playing they put the commentary on in english downstairs.. All other games will be shown on YLE and have finnish commentary thou.
Maybe outback will have the australian games with english comm.

does anyone know anything about the new australian bar opening in kamppi, will it be ready for the world cup??

Aren't the BBC showing some games over the net as well? I am guessing however that they will only be available to people in the UK..?

Why do you want to have the comments in English or German when you follow a game in a bar!!??

Be just happy if a bar shows the game you want to see, if you are able to see the screen :)

If you really really really want to follow some comments while watching the screen in a bar, maybe you could go to the bar with your wireless laptop, a headphone, and find out a proper radio available on the web. If you don't have the laptop, but if you have the headphone, maybe you could plug it to one of the tv in the bar  If you have nothing, just stick one of your hears on the speaker of the tv. Or put a yaourt-pot on it, connected to an other yaourt pot with a string. Or stick, with a strong tape, a mobile phone in front of the speaker of the tv, and call your own mobile with it. But honestly, just forget having the comments during a game shown in a bar....

Has anybody found a radio stream in English that is not region-restricted?
