Take violin with me to Finnair plane?

Post by tsuishant » Mon Jul 03, 2006 5:01 pm

Hi!

I am going to fly from Hongkong to Helsinki by Finnair, I wonder if it is possible to take a violin with me on Finnair flight? Or anybody has similar experience: to take an instrument as "hand luggage", is it ok?

Thanks!!

Well, depending on what you mean "is it possible"
- is it allowed in case you strangle someone with the strings
- is the violin going to be squished flat
- if someone squishes it flat may you cry because it was your own fault and you don't have an insurance...

I'd give a call to Finnair
Hong Kong
Tel. +852 2117 1238

FINNAIR RESERVATIONS
Room 2312, 23/F, Cosco Tower,
183 Queen's Road, Central
Tel. +852 2117 1238, Fax +852 2117 1239
E-mail: finnair.hkg@finnair.com
Open Mon-Fri 0900-1730, Sat 0900-1300

And ask what kind of precautions/how best to transport fragile items.

I'd go for a hard padded box...
Cheers, Hank W.

It's not just an issue of fragility, musical instruments, esp. those made from wood can be very sensitive to temperature & humidity.

Putting a violin in an unheated storage compartment in the hold of a long haul flight could damage the instrument.
