Maternity leave burning question

Post by aurajuusto » Wed Aug 09, 2006 2:02 pm

I have been reading throught Kela's webpages lately. They are well written but do not mention absolutely anyhting outside Kela's immediate functions.

What are the employer's obligations when an employee goes into maternity leave? Does s/he have to pay anything? Does it depend on the type of contract - long-term vs. short-term?

Hello!

As far as I know, the employer must pay only the costs on your yearly vacation, which are the salary for those days and holiday bonus (lomaraha, usually ~50% of monthly salary per year). Many employers also pay full salary e.g. for the first 3 months, for example the state as employer, but this is not obligatory. Kela is anyway paying back to the employer the basic amount of maternity and parental money af what they pay you. The employers obligation thus depend on what is written about yearly vacations in your contract.

You are absolutely righ about Kela's webpages' content. Sometimes you really can't connect the text to the real life's question at all...

Thanks a lot for your reply! This is exactly what I needed to know. So I will be getting lomarahaa... if I stay at the present job long enough, I mean.

Kela + Verotoimisto =
