Waterpolo in Oulu (or near)

Post by gfunho » Sat Aug 12, 2006 7:46 pm

I'm living in oulu and I'am wondering if there is the posibility of playing waterpolo in Oulu (or any place near it).

Do anyone know if some of the local swimming clubs have Waterpolo division?

It will be nice to take place in competitions but just training would be enough.

I really miss it a lot....:(

Magic word is I think is vesipallo? Theres 3 swim clubs in Oulu, but they didn't advertise it too much. You should contact them and ask:

I've tried that before, but nobody seems to answer me. Maybe the antispam filter block it (hehehe).

I think I have to go straight to raksila Swimming pool and try to find one of these clubs.

Thanks for your answer anyway

I swim with Oulun Lohet Masters team, and there has been talk of getting a water polo team together, but nothing has come of it yet.

But if you're interested, we train at Raksila on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8pm.

Contact details can be found on Oulun Lohet website that Hank posted.

Did you finally did something about this team? If not....any chance of making it next year?

Best Regards

Not exactly.

I mean, Oulun Lohet club told me that they wanted to have a shift in one of the pools to play waterpolo but nothing came at the end.

I now also know a former player of the also former waterpolo team in Oulu. I will also contact him for next season and try to arrange something.

Let's be in touch.

Waterpolo, hell yeah! The problem is that we have only five teams in Finland, as far as I know. Two in Helsinki, one in Turku, Jyväskylä and Eura.

Waterpolo has traditionally been the sport for retired swimmers in. Thats why it's not so respected here. The other reason is crappy pr. I played waterpolo for two years in Turun Uimarit and I'm going to start playing again some day.

Yes, that´s it. It´s understandable that organizing a competition in Finland is also not so easy, but I was hoping that at least in every big town would be some swimming clubs with some waterpolo shifts just to play for fun.

I say that because once you now how to play, waterpolo is really funny and I´m sure that many "not so good swimmers" (I mean the ones that are not winning every competition), would like to play it a lot.

I don´t want to be a retired player beeing 26 but the closer team to Oulu is 400km away!!!!!

I was wondering if there is some news about this topic. Is it possible to play this year somewhere?
