What Football Team do you support SURVEY

Post by shellpink4 » Tue Sep 12, 2006 10:39 pm

Hi everyone..

My husband Mark has been asked to write an article for a UK football website about the Finnish response to the wonderful game of football. Especially with regard to the UK premiership teams.

So, whether you are Finnish or from elsewhere, living in Finland...my questions to you are -

What Premiership team do you support?
How do you follow them from so far away?
Do you also support a Finnish team, if so who?

Many thanks for all your comments in advance.

Michelle

1. What is football? What they play in Rovaniemi with an orange ball in a few inches of snow as a joke in the news?

2. I think the only teams I know is Arsenal and Manchester United... No clue if they play in the premier league, or whatever that is.

3. Jokerit, but they play the only sport that counts - ICE HOCKEY
Cheers, Hank W.

Thanks for that - I appreciate it...which I have noted..but it doesnt follow through with the other part of the questions that we are seeking answers to...which are just as important in the survey.

Please everyone let us know! Thanks..x

No, the local team went under last year.

Canal+, online radio, online Everton fora, the BBC sport website, fly back to go to matches when I can, get Match of the Day DVDd and posted by my dad

No, my loyalties lie only with Everton. I do not subscribe to the 'support a local team as well' way of thinking. Plus there isn't any atmosphere at a Tampere United game when the stadium holds 20,000 odd people and there are 2 people and a dog there.[/quote]

Reading FC, my home town. Currently in the top half of the Premiership having beaten Man City 1-0 on Monday. Their first season EVER in the Premiership
shellpink4 wrote:How do you follow them from so far away?
I just follow the fixtures and results on bbc.co.uk/sport and get occasional match reports from my nephews in Reading, when they can afford to buy a ticket for a home game

Yes, FC Honka in Espoo. Two of my boys play in their junior league, so they have free entrance to the home games and I usually go with them.

Any article about Finnish football has to give credit to the huge number of junior teams and the excellent organisation of junior league football in the whole country. There is of course http://www.helsinkicup.fi but many, many other tournaments too. I would guess that a much higher percentage of school-boys have a Football Federation licence and play in a team than in the UK.

And please, DON'T FORGET THE GIRLS..... women's football is BIG in Finland

- What Premiership team do you support?
Arsenal, as I like the trainer and a few of the players. Also because I cant stand Ferguson or Mourinho :)

- How do you follow them from so far away?
Mainly results and analysis from websites, TV, etc.

- Do you also support a Finnish team, if so who?
I' m not THAT desperate :)
Here in Finland, I have done everything I can to blend-in with the Finns, I've changed my hair color, wore differnet clothes, got different

Yep, seen that, Benny Hill is particularly appropriate music. No we are not Mr and Mrs, just a few sensible people in a sea of plastic Liverpool supporters (what is it about Scandinavia that attracts them to Liverpool - Norway and Denmark are full of 'em too).
