We seem to have had the same problem. Sophie was a stubborn litle madam when it came to BF and just wouldn't take it, even the MW were surprised at her. In the end I ended up expressing for her for 4 months. She was exclusively fed on breast milk for those 4 months just through a bottle instead.
If it still isn't working and your Neuvola has checked latching on positions etc then just try the expressing. Is there such a thing as a BF nurse here in Finland? If there is, it may be worth contacting them. Ask at Neuvola.
How is all going apart from the feeding? Come and visit us soon, the earluier you get out the house the easier it is.
Good luck
Hannah and Sophie (still a stubborn madam).

Mine wouldn't take the breast either, so I tried using a silicon teat (rintakumi in Finnish) and it worked. She fed that way until 5 months when she all of a sudden just latched on without it.
Bravo to you Hannah, it must have been hard work expressing all those months.
I don't know about the BF nurses but they have the Imetystukiryhmä, would this be the same thing? See http://www.imetys.fi/ Unfortunately this is all in Finnish, but they may have English speakers in their lists. There's the national breastfeeding helpline: 041-528 5582.

saving chimpanzees is a big hairy deal
I had the same problem with Liya. In my case, the milk production was also less. Though I haven't suceed in BF, the only advice from my side is always try to feed her when she is not fully awake. It really worked with Liya that way.
Try to avoid bottle as possible as you can because that is the only thing babies don't want breast. Instead you can try using spoon for atleast two or three days. I know it's really a hard work but you'll find more hard when you express and feed her in the future that I am doing now
Good luck for you.

Have you had her suck reflex evaluated ?
I don't know if your MW has evaluated this reflex or not. Its becoming a common problem that the infant has difficulty latching onto the nipple thereby causing inefficient suction, or not enough milk release. The child then gets frustrated because its only a couple of drops, and it wants more so it quits feeding that way. There are a couple of ways to resolve this issue but it needs to be evaluated to determine whats the best approach. Email me if you want more info, I dont know if its appropriate to discuss on this board.

Hang in there! I used the Rintakumit on my 1st son while bf for a whole year! Apparently my nipples are small & he couldn´t latch on! Used them again for 2nd son but after 4 months, he managed without. 3rd son is finally "au naturel", but the little one refuses right breast continually, so hand express daily still, he also refuses to take any milk from me unless I am lying down, VERY frustrating! I hope the neuvola are giving you support. Don´t beat yourself up if it doesn´t work for you though. Formula feeding does not make you a bad mother. I dont have a single friend in my v illage here who has bf for a year or more, most give up after 3 mths! Good luck, please let us know how things go!

A friend of mine has one of these- http://www.hipseat.com
Her son is about 15kg and it is great for carrying him around in. I think she got it at Lastentarvike.

Hi sahboo!
Lots of "jaksaminen" to you
I had the same problem with little P. and I ended up expressing for almost 6 months (next time I wouldn't continue longer than 4 months
) She got also formula all the time and has been pretty healthy girl. There are a few recommended bottle types that remind the shape of breast (e.g. Avent) that may help when struggling with feeding. They also have very small whole -> milk comes out slowly, so the baby don't get adjusted to easier milk flow compared to breast. There is also at least one private BF support service offered by a BF expert (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) in Helsinki area. It's called Silkkipää and one visit costs about 60 €. We had the lady from there visit us and she was really good.

thanx scooby, but I tried the Hippychick seat & it made my body feel lopsided, worse than a rengasliina ring sling! But I probably will just splash out & buy a Mei Tai, so lil one is secure while I chase around with ds1 & 2!
We had snow here today, first of the season, mind you it didn´t last! I can´t wait, I just LOVE Finnish winters!
Allie, still missing Wokingham, especially Tescos!
