rent?, buy?, lease? car in Finland

Post by Fred » Mon Oct 23, 2006 8:46 pm

Situation - my daughter is registered as student at a university in Finland and has completed 1 year of a 2 year program(me). Finland is a fine place, very picturesque, with nice snow, but the public transportation system in the relatively small burg of the uni leaves something to be desired. It is something like the Altanta Olympics; you can't get there from here! My daughter suffered through her third knee operation this past summer and while all known and unknown Gods were prayed to, she is still not up to the rigours of trudging up hill and down dale to travers the snow banks, cobble stones and unplowed roads from wherever her assigned housing might be to the uni. The uni is accomodating her as far as taking time off during her program, but she must return to Finland to finish the program, probably in the spring. SO, in anticipation that she will return to Finland in the spring, but not be very mobile, I was wondering if helpful people might have advice on aspects of car rental?, buying? or leasing? a car in Finland for a maximum of 6 months and a minimum of, say, 2 months? Doesn't have to be new; preferably from a 'reputable' outfit, not too expensive (whatever that means); i.e., a 'student' car that gets her to the uni and home without expiring half way.

many thanks

And where "at the uni" is she going to park the car? ... ok, so if it is *not* Helsinki centre campus then... theres car rental agencies that do "mini-leasing" for 1-24 months. Don't know what they want as deposit/guarantee though.
