naptime and neighbour's renovation

Post by RA » Wed Nov 22, 2006 1:13 pm

So our neighbour above us decide to begin renovating their sauna. They've been pretty quiet though, but yesterday and today they've began a whole lot of hammering and drilling, which comes with the territory, but it always begins half an hour after my daughter begins her nap. She usually naps for about an hour and a half to two hours (12-13.30/14), but now she can't because all the noise keeps waking her up. I guess I could go out with her but... I don't want to... it's wet and mucky and besides I need to study when she's sleeping. Would it be unreasonable to ask them to take a break from all the drilling etc during her nap time?

First of all: I don't think that a polite request would hurt. Depends on how courteous they are and how receptive they are to your reasoning and request, even though they have the right to make noise during normal hours.

Besides, you can also buy your daughter and yourself some earplugs..that you stuff in your ear and see if it helps.

You definitely have my sympathies. When my party-all-night-go-to-Thailand neighbors were remodeling, I was in the same situation. They would hammer through naptime. I went over to ask them hold off on the hammering during that time of day. They informed me that they were on a deadline and it was just too bad for my kid. I hope you get more cooperation from your neighbors.

Sure, as long as you're willing to pay the workmen to sit around idling for two hours

I would be surprised if Sauna remonti was a DIY task...
Neighbours are probably at work...
Probably a couple of Estonian "experts" making the noise.
As Hank says these remonti guys will not "take a two hour lunch break"
They want to move onto the next job asap.
But no harm in asking...
But the work could be all done in a couple of days..
Sauna remonti is not a long job for a couple of Esti builders.

People do not become more irritable as they grow old - they simply stop making the effort to avoid annoying others.

Actually I think they're doing it themselves. They're both eläkeläiset like everyone else in this building except for the young doctor couple below and us. I'll ask my husband to pop over and ask them this evening. I wouldn't even mind them starting earlier in the day. The thing is they've been starting at her naptimes and they stop just about when her nap should be over.

They're probably timing it so that it wouldn't disturb anyone
