"Fathers and Babies" Groups - Helsinki
Hi All,
My name is Anne and I have been living in Finland with my partner for the last 2 years. I have, in September, had a baby boy, Daniel - who is wonderful (but don't all mothers say that about their babies!). He is growing, it seems to us, daily and doing very well but we'd like to be able to find opportunities for him to meet other babies/children and for us, as new parents to compare notes with others!
I wonder if anyone knows if there are any groups for fathers and babies. I am currently on maternity leave and will be returning to work in March next year, but my partner Mike will be taking care of Daniel and we would be interested in knowing about any other fathers who are the main carers or groups. Unfortunately they'd need to be English speaking!
We are aware of the M&Ms group which meets in Stockmans on Thursday and are hoping to get along in the next couple of weeks - but is this exclusively for mothers only, or are there any fathers attending as well. Appreciate any/all information. Cheers, Anne

There's an international families group that meets in Caisa on Saturdays - EVERYBODY is welcome: mums and dads, babes and brothers and sisters. You need to get on their mailing list. Best place to get details is Caisa itself or maybe in 6 Degrees.

(PS: IIRC Jason Wright is no longer the organiser so don't call him but maybe someone can post a new contact name and number)

My wife goes back to work next week, leaving me to take care of our 10 month old boy, at least for the next 7 months. I'd be a bit shy to go to Stockmann to meet the Mums, but after a couple of weeks at home it might start to look tempting. If there are any Dads in the capital area in my position, I'd be happy to meet up. And if anyone's got any house husbandy advice, that's welcome too - what am I going to do all day!
Ok where do you live in Espoo?marmite wrote: If there are any Dads in the capital area in my position, I'd be happy to meet up. And if anyone's got any house husbandy advice, that's welcome too - what am I going to do all day!
I am a home father. I go to the playground for a couple of hours.
and just hang around with the boys.
I am to shy to go to that mums club at Stockmann.
But if there are some fathers there I would join.

I looked after my daughter while the ex did her degree. You're going to look after your child, clean up, do the washing, cook food, do the shopping, put the baby for his nap, change him, feed him, take him for a walk, change his nappy, read to him, play games with him, worry when he cries, smile when he laughs, relate the joy your son brings you every day to your partner, and also complain that it's alright for her because she's had 'grown up,conversations all day,. You're going to experience what women have had to do for generations and you're going to be much more sympathetic to women who 'WORK' in the home.
You may even pluck up the courage to venture out to Stockmans and join the Mafia Mummies group.

I have 2 boys 7 months and 2 years old. It's hard work to be at home.
I suggest you go swimming everyday....my son loves it and is very tired afterwards. Plus it eats up about 2h of what can be a long day if you have nothing to do. Its prefect for a nice long nap allowing you to have a relaxing coffee.
I'm a part time house dad.....5 weeks on and 5 weeks off. I'm soon going back to work but l'd like to meet up with other house dads when l am back in mid Feb.
cheers
Allan

I'm three nappies and a couple of hours into my career as a house dad... Where's a good place to swim in the capital area? A place that's warm enough for the boy and deep enough for my back not to ache? Allan, if I'm still in one piece in February, post if you want to organise a meeting. Suomi-Iceland, I PM'd you...
