Russian Fiancee needs a Finnish (or Schengen) Visa

Post by percival504 » Wed Dec 27, 2006 6:49 pm

Hello to all and thank you in advance to all who reply. My fiancee, who is a Russian citizen, and I are planning to visit Helsinki for Valentine's Day. This is primarily because I, an African-American, have encountered hostility in Russia (we met in the US for any who are curious). How difficult will it be for her to obtain a visa to visit Finland and does anyone know how long it will take to process the visa? Finally, can anyone reccomend a luxury hotel in Helsinki?

She should apply at the Finnish Embassy in Moscow or St.Petersburg for a tourist visa. Its a simple procedure and it will take about a week to get it. Usually it is valid for 30days. If you want her to move on a permanent basis to Finland its totaly different story. She must have a job here or married to you. As for the luxury hotel, the best one in the whole country is Kamp Hotel. Good luck and privet to your feance :)

Hello there percival.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience in Russia, I am blatantly not russian-looking and thinking of spending some time there in a few months, I was just wondering exactly how bad it really is in terms of racism? I have heard so many stories, I figured it would be best to hear it from someone who has been there and seen it first-hand? By all means let me know if it is something you do not wish to discuss, but if you do not mind, could you please tell me a little bit more about what sort of treatment foreigners of different racial origins receive?

I hope everything has worked out well for your fiance's move to Finland...!
