choosing a buggy for newborn
choosing a buggy for newborn
This is a tough one for me. Having been a nanny , teacher etc i would know what buggy to get. The lightest the easiest to fold etc. But that is in the U.K!
What on earth do i look for here. I have to admit that what i have seen so far has been very large and bulky. Looks heavy and also seems very low. I am 6ft.
Hannah i hadn't even considered the three wheeler as at home its usless on transport and on crowded streets.Only really for use in the countryside.I will after your comments put it onto my list of considerations.
So to all you Mothers Fathers and carers out there would you mind pm me with what you think is a good one?? and why?
Thanks

Anything with big airtyres. Things like umbrella folding McLarens are really not good in the snow, the wheels just aren't big enough. I had a Graco for a while, it didn't cope well in the snow. I have the Micralite which I cant use in the snow.
You need something that fully reclines for a newborn- possibly one with a pram insert though not 100% necessary. A good cosy toes/sleeping bag for it to sleep in is a must.
If you go for a 3 wheeler then get one that has interchangable fixed and swivel front wheels. I use the fixed wheel for the snow and the swivel when weaving my way round the grannies in the shop.
If Sophie needs a nap when we are out, something that lies nearly flat is beneficial.
I am not a fan of the BIG prams you see here, I can see their uses but there are other styles with big wheels that will do the job just as well.
Airlines take anything.
Styling wise, Quinny make some nice 3 and 4 wheeler ones, the Speedi is a good one for here as it has a carrycot that you can attach. It has a very good seating system too. You can also get them in Stockmanns.

Phil and Teds are very good buggies, my friend has one and loves it...

I have also owned a fair share of strollers...my favorite and the first I bought almost 4 years ago (in Texas) is a Zooper Buddie. They do not make this model anymore, but their lastest and greatest (I think) is their zydeco. I will probably get this when we are blessed with #3. They are a bit on the heavy side (28 lbs I think). But well worth the purchase and all accessories are included! Good Luck!

I have one of those big prams and i think it's perfect in winter, especially for a newborn, if my son had been born in summer time i might have chosen a bit different kind of buggy. i know that eventually i will end up buying another, a light weight buggy to use in the city and in summer time and when we're travelling... but i think that is pretty much the perfect combination, to have a big pram( good in the winter time and for a newborn and when taking long walks etc.) and a light weight buggy( good in the city and when travelling and for a little older baby and in summer time etc.) and that is the combination pretty much everyone i've known, that have had babies in Finland, have used and it has worked well for them... this is only my opinion of course, but i hope i could be of some help.

For infants, one I absolutely loved was the kind of stroller that you can attach the car seat directly on top of. When the child is a baby and falls asleep in the car it is VERY convenient to be able to just lift the whole car seat and baby out and then put it into the stroller (you don't have to wake the baby up or fiddle with straps). Our car seat that went with the stroller also latched on top of many shopping carts as well which was very convenient. I was able to get lots of stuff done during naptime!
If you will be outside walking a lot in winter a roomy model with the big wheels works very well. They are heavy but much easier to push in the snow.
We have one bigger heavier one for walking outside, naps outside etc. and another for lighter one for shopping and travelling (the one with the car seat).

Any recommendations for good places to buy a new stroller? Is it normal to pay about €500?! We're just over from the States, and our Graco, though compact and convenient, just doesn't cut it in the snow. On a quick side note, if looking for good car seats you can't go wrong with Britax...they can be a bit pricey, but we wouldn't buy or recommend anything else!
I know you said new, but you can get an excellent deal on second-hand strollers at www.huuto.netKaDaSa wrote:Any recommendations for good places to buy a new stroller?
newborn buggy
We are using Emmaljunga. It is excellent for us. It includes two parts, one for newborn and one for older age. It has wonderful mobility, Even in the shops. We have used it from summer to winter. In summer, the pram is very comfortable for baby 'Cause it is like a big bed. In winter, it is extremelly warm. It good for all road conditions. The bottom of the buggy is big enough to carry 2 to 3 full shopping bags. I have not use the one for older age yet, but it has 5 points decline founction which means baby can lie down too, but not good for this weather for newborns.
There is only one shortcoming for the pram. The newborn part is rather big, it is about 70cm long. You need to have big space in the back of the car to put it in. We bought a station wagon, it doesn't fit in the back of the car after folded. I have to detach the base and pram part each time which is not very convenient. So, try it with your car before buy it.
Anyhow, here is the link for the pram

Also, do a seach in this forum about buggy. This topic has been discussed before, you will find quite useful information.
We bought ours from lastentarvike from Vantaa. All together for around 800 euros, but it totally worth it.
BTW, if you consider of buying a car seat, don't buy Graco. The one that has a fixed base. It dones't hold baby's head well which means it is not safe enough.

I posted a similar topic on this forum some time back (wow, has it been THAT long?!!) and got some really useful responses.

After extensive research
(first baby - EVERYTHING had to be researched extensively!!
), I shortlisted the buggies down to the Mutsy, Quinny and the Bugaboo. In the end we got the Quinny Buzz http://www.quinny.com/buzz/ which we've been most satisfied with. Manoeuvers superbly for city use, narrow shopping aisles and while compact is able to plough through thick snowdrifts in winter. A worthwhile investment!
From the thread above I found out about Ping Pong http://www.pingpong-online.com/ a German online shop for buggies and ordered our Quinny from there. Saved a couple of hundred euros and UPS brought the whole package to our doorstep in less than a week.
The Quinny Buzz also comes with a Maxi Cosi car seat which can be attached to the stroller. Also remember to get the Footmuff which is indispensable (for winter) when you change from the carry cot to the stroller.
Hope this helps! Good luck in your buggy shopping!
