What does a guy have to do for a decent cup of Kahvi!?
Yep i second that, i'm english so Finnish Coffee is absurd, US coffee is a litre of milk with some coffee flavour thrown in for good measure so buy some Roberts espresso beans from the supermarket and buy the a coffee grinder (20 euros) and the bialetti italian coffee pot from stockmann and you'll be fine.EP wrote:Robert´s Coffee has a good selection. Many supermarkets also sell some of his stuff.

There's a coffee and tea shop on the ground floor of stockmann although i'm yet to buy from there as i've just bought a bag of beans back from London
Any other specialist shops anywhere?

Ah, coffee pads, you mean this kind of condom you put in some fancy machine? Yes, one Belgian friend had this kind of a machine. Made a lot of buzzing sounds. Do you not have TV for entertainment? Proper coffee is made in Arabian style IMHO, even better with some cardamon and cinnamon
Cheers, Hank W.

Strindberg and Fazer..
I normally go to Esplanad(e) cafe as those two seem geared towards the visitors with the garish clothes from the east. I actually meant a coffee shop that sells beans as opposed to somewhere to sit and drink it, i much prefer to grind and make my own at home, if only i could read the sunday papers

ok, so stockman's, eh?
I know one American that is going to be checking it out. Basically Im looking for whole beans and then I want to do my own grind and then use my French press.
So what are the kinds of coffee you can get here, other than the grind. can you get Jamaican Blue? Kona? Kopi Luak?
your right, I do miss Starbucks. As much as I hate the company on certain grounds (get it, grounds hehe)
Their coffee is quite good. When I was in college I worked at one of their cafes and it was a lot of fun. My fellow employees and I would have Espresso races and see how many demi-cups we could have in an eight hour shift...Maybe I should start my own coffee chain in Helsinki. All I would have to do is make up a bunch of itaialian/french sounding gibberish to make the coffee seem more elitist. (I mean what the hell IS a "Vente" anyway!)

There is no such thing as a weird human being. It's just that some require more understanding than others.
If you ever visit Tampere, go to Mokkamestarit.
http://www.mokkamestarit.fi/fi/
They have a good selection, cup of excellense beans etc.
And, they seem to have a web store, too.

Ah yes... Coffee in Finland Sucks. I just recently gave up and bought my own machine from Italy because I was so sick of drinking luke warm no foam stale coffee. Best coffee in Helsinki is at Delicato Cafe and the best place to buy beans is a place called cafe central. It sells all types of whole beans, machines and tools. All the people that work there are hard core coffee baristias. Gook Luck!
Depends what you like, of course. Personally I don't drink coffee that much but if pressed, I must say I prefer the Greek style coffee - or a Portuguese Bica - but see little sense in wondering "why I can't readily find them here", or making mean judgements of other people's tastesisaluba wrote:Ah yes... It's funny, and sort of sad, that the word "decent" seems ever so often to be equated with "what I'm used to" - even in matters of taste like this. But anyway I suppose Finns do that as well, confronted with "foreign" coffees many would probably just go ughhhh...
